I've no idea what or why a brushing scam is, and it's not from Amazon. All know I'm sitting on £1500+ of CCTV gear which will be recycled as used on eBay unless someone shows up at my door to collect them....

1968 Theft Act - Basic definition of theft.​

A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it

Section 2 of the 1968 Act specifies that appropriation is not dishonest if the person doing it believes that. They have a legal right to take the property; or. The owner would agree to their taking it if they knew about it; or. They could not find the person to whom the property belongs by taking reasonable steps.

If he keeps shtum and sells them straight away, he has satisfied both parts of the definition of theft.

If he at least gives the sender time to find out where they have gone, say 6 months, he could argue that (loosely) he gave the property owner enough time to discover where they had been sent and to contact him.
But to be sure, he's be better contacting someone, to prove the "reasonable steps to find the property owner"

For low value items, the property owner would rarely care about mis-deliveries so it becomes moot, however for £1500 worth there's a good chance that The owner would not agree to their taking it if they knew about it

brushing is where they send unsolicited stuff to you to boost feedback on eBay or Amazon. It’s why people selling power tools, for example, will have 10,000 positive feedback but if you click on the items 9500 of them are for unrelated crap like hairgrips.

usually the items they use for brushing scams are worthless crap.

You have to take reasonable steps to return it. The Test of what’s reasonable is the issue. There was a scam of scrotes nicking bikes in town a then taking them to town b, and handing them in as lost property, knowing they wouldn’t be claimed, and effectively using the police to ‘launder’ them

The police guidance nowadays for lost property is an ad on a community face ache group or similar. I reckon if you put an ad up saying is anyone expecting a delivery from xxx and no one replies then that would be reasonable if there is no return address. It’s odd there’s no way of tracking or contact with carrier to help.

I have long understood that on your funny island / islands so much is different ... but I would have been very surprised if your laws were completely different on this point.
Everything belongs to someone - over there even the wild swans belong to someone.

He better take some reasonable steps, because he can't talk himself out on ignorance anymore ...

If they knock and ask for them, then they can have them. Otherwise I'll be disposing of them as I'm not a missing parcel holding company

My 2p would be register letter to Hermes with track ref saying you’ve 7 days to get them or they are mine.

did the same when I got some unsolicited tools sent on my account from a tool place I used to use. Amazing how quick they can arrange pickup….

Funnily enough weve had the same with a big box of what I assume is craft type stuff, not opened the box but did open the invoice on the packing, emailed the company a week ago to say correct address but wrong people, no one in our area with the names either, basically said to the company get it collected or I dispose of the parcel, its been a week now with no response so just sent another email saying im not storing the parcel any longer and its getting disposed of, i might take it into one of the charity shops

Don't forget to include a 2B pencil in the tool kit. Rub the lead on the spark plug electrode to help the spark if you are having trouble starting.

Well, I seem to learn something new every day, Thanks.

I've always kept a spare plug or two with my bike's in the past. Don't know where it came from, but my Dad always had this spark plug sand blasting cleaner. It was used a lot back in the day, especially for fouled plugs on the lawnmowers.
