I remember that !! I rented a barn conversion in Scotland early 2000s with a tank - it was right on 17p / litre which at the time (between 3 single blokes) was only a few beers. The first summer came and we couldn’t figure out how to turn the heating down so we regulated with windows ….. :-( the woman at the gas company was in hysterics with the number of deliveries of oil we were ordering. Couldn’t imagine such behaviour now - on many levels !!

Hmmm. Not looking forward to paying for the pre Christmas top up then...

The volatility of heating oil prices is still hard to get used to even though we've been on Kero heating for 25 years now. A quick look at our most recent 1500 litre deliveries shows 44.4/litre in May and 30.8/litre last December.

Already has, 134.8p on 27/09 upto 138.9p by 30/09.

As for heating oil prices, some suppliers have put it up by over 10p/L in the last month. Glad I ordered mine at the end of August - same price as I paid in March 42.9p. I use my local company as they are always within .5p of best online, but I don't pay till it's delivered, tanker driver knows tank location and just puts the ticket thru the door.

Buy one of the £ 150 diesel blower heaters and use heating oil in 45 gallon steel drums .

I told my wife to get a summer rate refill but as we've used less than 300 litres out of the 1200 litre tank ( " Refilled 10 Sept last year ) she said it's not worth it as the summer rate is only good if we take on 1,000 litres.

All I can now say is thank goodness for us getting cavity wall insulation done , a very newest all singing all dancing Worcester boiler able to handle biofuels in the seals & hoses ,& recently the very latest super quality insulation for the roof void a few months ago . We also paid for our own tripple nitrogen filled glazing with no letter box in the front door in Feb 2020 .
When we first came here we were burning 3 x 1200 litres of fuel a year ( checked the fuel supply pipes ,pressurised them..no leaks ) & were always cold eventually discovered to be a hidden central heating pipe leak .

The 30 yr old DG was either badly fitted or due to settlement after being build you could drop a pencil out of one of two of the windows when it was closed or both reasons.

That's my understanding of it. Some industries still work different rota hours each week - longest I worked was a 100 week rota, pay could vary by up to 22 hours pay, doing a 38 hour 5 day week.
