Got to the garage (just about) at last.

We had a misfuel dragged in on Tuesday, driver reckoned it was 60/40 petrol/diesel, it was a petrol car so they had over 1/2 a tank and spent a while queueing to put the wrong fuel in the space in the tank they (probably) didn't need to fill.

I used to buy misfuel from a local garage at 50p a litre. My ssangyong will run on anything.

A few years ago just before Easter we had a motorhome come onto our forecourt for diesel, after filling it struggled to get across the road, no way had any fresh fuel got even as far as the filter, anyhow a few days later this customer was back ranting and raving saying our fuel was contaminated and he was going to sue. No other customers had a problem Our fuel suppliers were informed and we had to take random samples all of which was tested as OK . On asking the customer for a sample he brought in a jar full of crappy diesel , it had diesel bug probably caused by the motorhome standing over winter but he wouldn’t accept that as the cause. Funny we never heard anything else about it?

I never understand why people put in the fuel they need for the week, every week, instead of filling up for the month - of course, it means they're pulling a bit of extra weight around but as most are going to be local commuters (otherwise they'd be brimming it anyway) they lose more by the accelerate / brake circus you can see on most urban roads - more importantly, it leaves lots of room for condensation to form in the tank, leading to water in the fuel and somewhere for the 'diesel bugs' to live.

Because not everyone can afford to have that sort of cash tied up in fuel.
Some people are paid weekly - and have to live week to week, unfortunately.

I think very few people are paid weekly now - the ones I know for sure fill up weekly, I know for sure are paid monthly. I know not everyone can budget effectively for a month on weekly pay, I had some dark times a few years ago when I was paid weekly, electric, gas, rent, car tax, insurance was all monthly expenses with no opportunity to pay weekly and presumably if, like me, they are filling up with fuel to get to work, paying car insurance and tax, surely they already know how to pay monthly for some things? Fair enough, if they need more than a tank of fuel for the month, then its a fill/use cycle. I know posties were paid weekly, not sure if they still are - even the small independent garages I know pay monthly, sometimes with a staff of only two or three.

Paye yes but se income is always variable.

Also location plays a role. I work mainly in Milton Keynes. I'm never far from a petrol station. Normally just chuck 40 quid in the tank as needed.

I guess I’m a southerner …. The stations round here seem to have had 4-5 cars queuing and a full forecourt each time I’ve gone past the last few days. We’ve had 100 odd miles left +/-for the past few weeks and hoping that is enough to get through this madness. Feel very blessed at the moment not to need the car for work - can’t imagine how frustrating it is for those who do. Hoping it’s over soon but I do fear it’s the start of a wider issue (not necessarily fuel !)

I fill up whenever I go as I hate avoidable travel and wasting time at filling stations, filling up NOW will save me wasting 30 minutes of my life doing this again when the quarter tank has been used and fuel will only go up in price.
In addition, travelling about with a fivers worth or less swilling in the bottom of the tank has finished many a fuel sender in the crap heaps I have owned.

It's definitely relating to population density, but the strange thing is, there are more fuel stations down south to service said density... Aren't there?

I fill up from empty to full tank of 55 to 60 litres, every 10 days roughly.
No shortages up here so no effect.

More petrol stations to get tankers out to as well.

Gonna be getting urgent for fuel Tues/Wednesday so I'm gonna have to brave a queue.

Wish garages would shut off prices if there's no diesel/petrol. Save me queueing for half an hour to find they only have petrol.

No idea haven't been passed one yet.
One 7 miles south bound and 6 miles north from my home junction so might be an option.
