Well, as I've a longish trip to make early next week (Inspect a JCB 3CX), and the Discovery was less than half full, I thought that I'd better get some fuel - don't want to be stranded in the wilds of East Anglia with the TD5 gasping for a drink, and under half a tank won't get me back home. 3.3 miles down the road to Sainsburys, adjacent to it is another garage, both had just the normal one or two cars at the pumps, no queues, and I filled up as normal. What fuel crisis !

BUT, this means an added 6.6 miles of diesel used unnecessarily so maybe similar unneeded journey's are to blame.

(Tempting to use the 1000 litres of Red that I have but that would be naughty )

Here's the result of queueing for hours to get the dregs of the fuel at the filling station.....

That was the third draining of the fuel filter, we recommended removal of the fuel tank, flushing & cleaning - otherwise the vehicle would go on warranty restriction.

The fuel tank is a 'saddle' tank, so the propshaft & exhaust middle section need to be removed, along with all the underside trim

Wrong, the black pipe is the filler neck, bonded to the tank and rigid.

It sits between the bodyshell & the rear subframe, so that needs the brakes disconnecting and the subframe lowering, then you can get the tank out.

The rear diff is suspended from the subframe, all in all 7.3 hours including 1 hour to drain & clean the fuel tank. All for a bit of fuel which the driver (by his own admission) queued up for 'just in case'... It's not the first one we've had this week and probably not the last, the other was a petrol A Class on Motab, the driver was 'demanding' to know why there was water in his 'legitimate fuel from a legitimate filling station' and why it wasn't covered by warranty, even though he was paying nowt for the car and Motab were paying for repairs....

Anyone that doesn't want to queue for diesel can go and collect it directly from one of many distribution depots around the country, they will fill a bowser or an ibc on trailer for you at less than pump prices. Minimum around here of 1000ltres which seems a lot for most but that probably wouldn't outlast the crisis if you are on the road everyday.

Delivered in its about £1.38 ltr, collected should be a tad cheaper.

Spent 5 hours queing at petrol stations today, getting fuel for 2 stranded customers. Took 3 hours to get into a Morrison's, at one point they temporarily shut the station as the pump motors were overheating.

First job of the day was an electric car.. out of electricity. Had to tow it to a charge point. So much for them beating this..

I have about 220L of diesel between my 3 vehicles and 10L of petrol for a friend. Should be able to retire on it before the week's up.

We had a misfuel dragged in on Tuesday, driver reckoned it was 60/40 petrol/diesel, it was a petrol car so they had over 1/2 a tank and spent a while queueing to put the wrong fuel in the space in the tank they (probably) didn't need to fill.

There are no queues at any petrol station on the east of Manchester around Ashton, Hyde, Denton, Dukinfield, Stockport. Plenty of petrol and no pumps taped off. Like I said earlier, its old news.

If there is a shortage near you, the population around are still asleep, wandering lemming like behind each other, oblivious to the fact that most people have either come to their senses or become bored with topping the tank off each day with £2.50 worth of fuel. Besides, it's Friday night, the end of the month (payday) so most are going out to get hammered.

No queues around here since Wednesday, although Costco was out of U/L yesterday afternoon, I'm down to 3/4 of a tank (~70l.) and don't feel the need to top up.....
