I can fit more lighting if need be. There are two 2m windows and a pedestrian door with a window does that matter to have windows though ? If there is a power outage ill just go in the house. You need some lighting in the centre of the room to get rid of shadows, those seem a bit low power to me. Also consider some emergency lighting in the event of power outages - I can't see any windows.
Emergency lighting is more about enabling you to get out safely in the event of a power outage, without tripping over 'stuff'... as a minimum, I'd suggest one over the door, to give you something to aim for, and another on the ceiling at the point of change of direction of the room. Windows are fine in daytime, less so in the evenings. I'd also put in a 'rate of rise of heat' detector, linked to the house smoke alarms, just for peace of mind.I can fit more lighting if need be. Lunacy and money making yet again.Same here, I have designed multi-million pound control systems for the Nuclear industry, I also have the Inspection & Test qualifications (along with 18th edition) but as I am not registered, I need a sparky to do the work!
The thing is the house needs a rewire and if there doing that they mite aswell do the whole lot. i get what yo mean though. we found this out as we got a sparky in the fit a new CU and then he did the test first.Surely if there is a seperate supply to the workshop from your side of the meter tails, the house wiring has no bearing on the workshop installation? the two could be treated separately and the house issues dealt with at a later date?
Surely they can't make you rewire the house
Perhaps it's my cynical side but this sounds like it could be like the old MOT testers. It's failed mate when would you like to book you in to replace the parts? (With a twist of I can't actually do the work ) but I know a man who can.No they cant but it needs it. the tested the circuits and there are faults in the circuits, they are that bad it near on putting danger notice on and isolating it all. he doesnt do rewires anymore so he is giving my details to another chap from the same company.
How did you draw that schematic. Here we go a top notch schematic of the workshop wiring to give a better idea of what i am after..
I have the lights now, went a bit OTT it think but atleast iu will be able to see lol.

yep, i like you but what else can i do. I have another sparky coming tomorrow to give a rewire quote but rough figure he said was £3800 for rewire and the workshop.Perhaps it's my cynical side but this sounds like it could be like the old MOT testers. Might not be but I trust no one any more. If the powers that be can like why not everyone else..
you like i did it on windows paint lol about as tech as i can getHow did you draw that schematic.
thats virtualy impossible without some discussing the far end of a fart and where it comes from instead of just a simple answer and solution with 40 postsI was a little bit sceptical, until you said "the fuse box is near 50 years old" .
You might be able to reduce the cost by you doing the labouring yourself, if you get a reasonable sparks he should talk you thru what you need and why, in terms you understand, if he just tries to baffle/******** you find another.
Also CU's can vary in price considerably, get recommendations from those on here who do house rewires.
I believe that in the near future there will be another amendment to the wiring regs (BS7671) and this may have an impact on how houses are wired/rewired - PLEASE DO NOT HIJACK THIS THREAD WITH DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THIS, the OP is looking for help and advice on his current situation, not the rights or wrongs of the upcoming amendment to BS7671.
