Bought this on a whim, needs re-wiring, quill return spring and maybe some more, I haven’t spent much time on it yet. Just wondering what use it would be 6000-18000 rpm, 3mm Chuck capacity, somebody give me a use for it so I can justify keeping it!
Sorry, Drilling....typo..Drillung holes in hydraulic restricters.
I could do with one at times.
That's similar to how mine came, I think there's supposed to be three different rear pulleys which can be swapped in.
Post 56 here shows the speed plate, I'm pretty sure what I described there is how it should work.On his one, the centre shaft looks like it is missing a pulley as well.
You could start with the rpm of the motor, which is fixed, and work out what step up you would need to get top speed. That will give you relative pulley sizes and if they will not physically fit within the casing, then it has to be a compound pulley set up.
Any chance to post a picture of the plate on yours and we could do some thinking.

Never seen the tapered pulley mount on the motor before, I wonder if that's an early or a later model. Mine is just a parallel spindle with a flange.Just found this one:

It looks like we've lost a piece!404: Page not found This page could not be found. Maybe try a search? If it's a forum topic you are looking for, ...www.model-engineer.co.uk
so it was also made with an Alfred Herbert badge. The thread has pictures of the pulleys.
It should only have two pulleys; the centre shaft is for raising the body on the pillar - the key is to secure the handle to the shaft. No pulley there, so sorry for the incorrect suggestion.
