SWMBO and I applied for our new driving licences at the Post Office on 15th July as in last Thursday. Got them back on the 20th! So 2 working days!

Both licences now have Category A for bikes...over 35kW. Didn't have before, what's that all about?

Typical DVLA cock up, normally they manage to leave off categories when you need to renew your licence - I know of one bus driver who had passed his test 20 years earlier and was employed as a bus driver (new medical as 45 years old), didn't check his new licence when it arrived, company 6 monthly audit of DL's found it though 3 months later, there was major panic over this.

The code in brackets means it's only valid for tricycles. You haven't been gifted a full bike license.

I always take a photocopy of my licence before I send it off.

As do I. Dropping categories is not a new thing I can remember back in the 70s workmates moaning about losing motor bike category when having licence returned.

Never had A on the last licence.

Car licences issued in a certain few years were also allowed to drive / ride trikes. At some point they split it of to its own category.

So you did have it before but it was hidden in the other category letter.

Just had an email from DVLA to say they've received my licence application has been received, I sent it on 11th June, so may get it back by the end of August.

I was given one of those Chinese 49cc scooters by a mate who doesn't use it anymore. It's in good nick although it's been off the road for over 2 years. Anyway, he had lost the V5 [log book] so I applied to the DVLC using one of the SORN letters he had. He filled my address in and signed it and I posted it. That was 2 months ago and I've never heard a thing from them. I rang the DVLC up after 3 weeks and got a recorded message stating they were on Industrial action... I think that means a strike! . Lazy gits! . I did notice all the gov.uk sites I visited to check a vehicle were not available. What the heck have they got to take industrial action over? no doubt they'll be on decent wages and most I would think will be working from home. Sack the lot of them and employ people who want to work

Hi, From what I understand, that is part of their beef. They aren't allowed to work from home and have to come into crowded offices with limited social distancing so they have health concerns. In fact at the beginning of the pandemic loads of them caught it.

Yeah there was quite a lot off and the seemed too loose the ability to function. They then tagged the pay rise on to working conditions for a quick earner ! Not forgetting the age groups working there had children who were also sent home and they had too sort child care !

When it came it was just a shell with all the bits stuffed in. No number plates, I found them out via the VIN plate.

How would I go about getting a new log book in my name? All I remember is the seller's name was Tom!

Just wonndering if given the present climate at the DVLA it'll be easier or harder.

Hi, Someone asked a similar question on another forum recently, basically it starts with a logbook request form V62 but the VIN and reg number need to be right.

I leave the reply from another member who seems to have knowledge of the history and an understanding of the inner workings of the place.

I know this more than answers your question but it contains info that might be useful to others. I personally would hold fire for a while because if it requires personal input from staff it could take a while, automated stuff seems to go through quickly.

I just got the V5c back for my Mk2 Jaguar, sent it in over two months ago for a colour change, engine cc and number change, historic tax class change, all done except the new cc, they say I need to send it back and wait another 8-12 weeks, FFS,

Also have another V5c with a note that says "non transferable number" only noticed when I was about to sell the car and wanted to remove the number, I put the number on this car, it must be transferable, impossible to get them to even look at their records to see what happened, email, web chat, phone calls, nope, I have to write them a letter, they then scan it and destroy the original, why can I not send them an email in the first place?
