Everyday ladies watch

Hi everyone, consulting the forum Which? team as I'm after a new everyday watch for the Mrs birthday. I know nothing about watches, the last one I had was a Casio illuminator when I was 10! Don't mind spending a few hundred for a half decent one but don't want to spend lots as it's for every day and she has a habit of breaking shiny stuff at the stables! A lot of "fashion" brands seem to be making watches which makes me wonder if you're paying for the name. I wasn't aware that Versace or Armani had built a watch factory! Here's a few ideas she sent me and she's quite insistent I get it rather than give her the money!

Brilliant news, get a £10 knock off from the bay of thieves and spend the difference on toysntools, she will never know the difference

Most designer watches are made by 3rd parties regardless of what they say, most of the value is in the brand rather the craftsmanship.
For a traditional watch I’d recommend Seiko. Unless it’s going to be worn everyday then go for quartz (battery) movement rather than automatic. Kinetic and solar both have limited life’s due to the capacitor.
If your wife is also into her fitness then look at a smart watch such as Garmin Venu, look like a traditional watch with plenty of features and good battery life.

Tell her to look at her phone if she needs to know the time. Sekondas keep good time and are reasonably priced or go on Wish.com and buy a dozen to keep her in watches for a while.

Most Woman's watches don't seem to have any water resistance. I got a Tissot one which is water resistant for my lady who seems to be a one woman destructive testing unit when it comes to jewellery items. Still, that issue was an excellent justification for adding a jewellers torch to the workshop tool aggregation

Still, that issue was an excellent justification for adding a jewellers torch to the workshop tool aggregation

My regular watch is Casio G Shock with a stainless bracelet. Resin straps do not last. I have had the G Shock for 20 years and it gets a hammering. Solar powered and time sync via the atomic clock in Rugby so it is pretty accurate. Still always late for everything though

Have you noticed that Tissot is Toss It backwards. Just don't know if that's about what you should do with the watch or may as well have done with your money.

I have a 'good' watch, a Tag which my wife bought me for my 30th, 17 years ago now. I wear it most of the time , (pen pusher) it looks nice, is robust but expensive to service and replace batteries in. I also have a cheap Seiko or Casio?? Can't remember, it cost £14. It lies in the drawer, always tells the correct time haven't ever had to put a battery in it. I wear it on holiday at the beach, pool etc it's robust and don't care if it gets lost. Stolen or broken. I could probably buy 100 of them before I could replace the Tag. Crazy!
