Hob recommendations??

We currently have a Neff TB1219 4 ring 6600W ceramic hob. Its faulty and needs replacement.

Replacements range from £150 for cheaper brands upwards. We can fit something around 7kW max. I cook a lot. Its a standard 4 ring size hob.

What are you all fitting? Should I go induction? My pans are compatible bit apart from safety is there much advantage? I am a bit stumped with the choices out there.

Induction all the way. Have had every other type and none of them come close to an induction hob - super easy to keep spotless, very controllable. The only downsides - no good if you’re clumsy, and you need to provide a decent electricity supply as most of them are rated at around 7kW. On the first point, I removed all the heavy stuff from the wall cupboards near mine as someone else who shall remain nameless falls into the clumsy category. She is only allowed to store meringues and cup cake cases in the adjacent cupboards now..

Sparky said 7.5kW should be fine today. 32 amp MCB for that circuit.

if its wired in 6.0mm on a 30 amp supply it can take up to 15kw on a standard cooker allowing for diversity

Yeah, I just thought it was worth mentioning, as some people assume you can just plug them into a 13a socket.

some of the induction hobs can run on lower power but it limits the rings to having 2 on at once fully a waste of time and there hard to come by and more expensive

No worries. Itbwas lucky we had someone out. He found loose wires in the consumer unit and pointed out that the current 30amp hob and 20amp cooker shouldnt all be wired into the same 32amp MCB. Gonna get this all sorted and safety tested.

Some of them you can.

A lit of them have energy setting where you set up max current too

Induction every time, as quick as gas without the crapoy metalwork

No worries. Itbwas lucky we had someone out. He found loose wires in the consumer unit and pointed out that the current 30amp hob and 20amp cooker shouldnt all be wired into the same 32amp MCB. Gonna get this all sorted and safety tested.

thats the problem nowadays with separate ovens either 16 amp or 20 conected with the hob at 30 amp. a 13 amp ovens ok because you can fit a cooker control unit with a 13 amp socket and just plug it in and fit it in an adjacent cupboard out of sight

Bottle of propane works for me.

Guaranteed to run out on a Sunday morning when you need proper coffee.

Yes, there are a few models like that, but as @brightspark says they’re a bit of a faff, especially when you’re balls out cooking the Christmas dinner

i re fit a lot quite regular for an electrical shop just fit whatever they give me or what the punter wants

What was the main advantage Parm?

As fast or faster than gas for heating stuff (I do a lot of boiled eggs it is literally seconds that the water is fizzing). Great fine control (ours is 0-9 on each element with half steps between so 20 odd settings). Move pans between elements and its instant to keep the heat on - we do this all the time when you move a sauce to the back to simmer etc. Virtually instantly cools when you take the pot off (still warm but you can put your hand on without burning almost straight away) and no indirect heat escaping (so if the kids are close they can touch anywhere around the pot without touching heat). Beacuse the heating stops as soon as the power is off the timer function works really well - great if you want to boil eggs for 4.5 mins for instance.
we have young kids and I wouldn’t have anything else now purely from a safety point of view.
bad points - they do scratch (at least in our house !) that’s just one of those things. Ours has a slight gap where the glass sits on a rubber gasket on the island and it is a trap for crumbs/rice etc which bugs me a bit - just harder to clean. There are some with “chrome trims” - I believe this would solve that issue.

Another +1 for the induction hob. Ours is an AEG, No mains gas here so it was the next best thing.

The only annoyance is the touch controls, they go doolally if you have any spillage or put anything down on them. Seems hard to avoid them these days.
