Someone needs to persaude them to get china to produce one that will fit colchester and harrisons 4.5mt to 3mt
Last time I had one I stuck it on here for £75 and had no takers, it went on evilbay and realised a staggering £156

I ummmed and ahhhd over that one on here, decided to buy it and it was already on the bay!

No I know this is a massive long shot, but does anyone know or suspect what the spindle adapter for my triumph with the big bore spindle uses...?! Is there some sort of standard for an L taper, like an L1 has a 4.5morse inner taper? Or is it just what the manufacturer fancied boring it to?

Just what the manufacturer fancies. Toured will be huge, I don’t think mine had a taper in it

The internal taper of the spindle, I imagine would be more related to the bore of the spindle than the noise fitting. Colchester like to use a Morse fitting so if you look at the minor diameter of the adapters, you need the next one up from the spindle bore diameter, as a rough guide.

Things could be worse, I’m looking for a bush for my DSG but these aren’t a Morse taper or anything standard like that. Mine has a 1:10 taper and are like trying to find rocking horse poo.

Make sure you put a 2 foot bar on it. That’s what the original had. Huge thing

I have considered the idea but by the time I get reamers and such to machine the morse 5 socked it’s getting expensive.

That’s how one I had for a Kerry with a L0 spindle was made.

Years back when I had a round head Colchester Student with no spanner I 'blacksmithed' one on a coke forge from 1" round bar, bent the curve red hot to a chalk line, then knocked over the 'hook' end over the anvil and case hardened just the hook. Only equipment used was a big hammer and an anvil. I guess the lever part of the bar was about 2'6" or there abouts.

It didn't need hi-tech, which was lucky as I didn't have any back then !

Now there's an idea. Might just fire the forge up and knock it out of some 20mm bar. For the amount of times I'll swap the chuck mild even if it wears will last ages and can be welded and built up.

The large end of a number 7 Morse taper is about 3 1/4". If your spindle bore is more than that, it can't be a Morse taper. You can probably roughly measure the bore from the opposite end of the spindle to the chuck in advance of making the C-spanner.

The biggest problem with above is the tang ejection slot, which gives a horrible interrupted cut when turning the outside. As it is a spindle bush, maybe curtailing it just as the slot starts would be OK.
