I'd not be surprised if the word comparator features in it somewhere.

At work, we're accredited by UKAS for metrology; last time I had an audit by them their metrology specialist recommended we get one of those - however as they insist on everything being Metric it would be £££Mitutoyo height master. Numerical display reads thousandths, the micrometer barrel has tenths, 40tpi leadscrew. Some of the paint has been chipped and covered with nail varnish but the measurement surfaces look just about mint.

.

Nice slip gauges. Some of my other metrology tools, Starrett 6">12" set, gage blocks, cylinder square, precision angles, and a CEJ Microkater, which is my my most sensitive instrument, which I have no real use for other than for show & tell to demonstrate how a gage block can expand from the heat when held between the fingers.

Whilst I have no need for one, I would not say no if one came along!!A 'bit' of tidying up allowed me to open this up for a picture 16-20" Moore & Wright View attachment 287709
I will use them occasionally!! but each of those cost me a £10 plus a bit of a diversion to pick them up, in all good concience I couldn't turn them down at that priceI have mic's up to 6"/150mm, but rarely use anything over 3"/75mm. Do many use the larger mics ? Most i see for sale are immaculate and seem to have had little use.
