The sleepers have 3 or 4 pairs of holes, presumably to tie down the tracks, which are roughly the same width apart, hence the sliding pole and the heath robinson roof to clamp the sliding pole.
Tomorrow, when the digger arrives, I'll figure out how to attach the clamp to the bucket and then use the digger to left 'em up and drop them (hopefully!) into the trench.
We fitted an RSL thumb on one of our machines, its a brilliant bit of kit for material handling like sleepers.

Wow, that's alot of sleepers, can't have been cheap.
To be fair, I was actually after grade B softwood which would have been £20, but they had none left so it was these or wait for stock to build up again.
Seems like anything to do with home or garden refurb is like hen's teeth at the minute. 5 week delay to get a digger delivered, too...

I've gone waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay smaller. This is an 800KG one (this is where you say "I didn't know they did one that small...?" )We've 3 of them on the go at the moment, going from the 2.5 tonner to 14 tonner tomorrow, the damage could be immense.

Ideally, I'm only looking for a 300mm wide trench so thought smaller would be better. Just hoping it can lift the sleepers, otherwise it's gonna be a looooooooooong weekI drove one of them through a church in Glasgow one Saturday, was meant to be doing it I hadn't just nicked it and went low speed joy riding.
I have far more issue grading with the smaller ones than the bigger ones.

The TFL are now starting to use composite sleepers. I can see a big shortage in sleepers at some point with that happening. We are on the tender list for Rail networks recycled materials and we haven't had anything come through for over month now, that would create a shortage and drive up prices.
