I asked the local locksmith where I bought it , only interested in selling new , dont forget Ime south so everything is money money money first service last

Now there's a nice lock, levers rather than a pin cylinder construction of the Squire, but built like a battleship, should last multiple lifetimes.

at around treble the price understandable its better model/security , there comes a point though where no matter what you use a battery powered milwaukee will open it in moments , common sence prevails when you live on the edge of the new forest, if the "boys" want it, its gone, said before a friend parked his ifor behind several cars, wheel lock on , chained to a tree, they chain sawed the tree ,cut the locks, tipped it on its side and gone , the only good bit he said was they didnt even smash the wing mirrors on the parked cars. and didnt break into workshop. he didnt replace it as just wasnt worth going through the hassle again.

You're correct, any lock,chain or cable security is no match for a battery powered abrasive wheel tool and determined thief. As with all security it's only as good as the weakest link.
I did some work for automotive keyless security systems in the past & that just means that as the security system & immobilisation improved to needing the key, the weakest link is now the person holding the key!
I also did similar for a motorbike manufacturer but in that case any 2 strong blokes with a Transit could have it away no matter how good the immobilisation system.
What's sad though is just how easy some physically strong locks are to open by manipulating the locking mechanism. All I'd say is avoid the MasterLock padlocks that are widely available!
Using that search for blanks, it looks like there are at least 2 different keyways used by the Squire Stronghold series, blanks at about £5 to£8 each. Add to this the cost of shipping it to someone & back again to pick it & make a key from a a blank is it still worth it?
It is sad that your locksmith isn't interested, but factor in an hour or so of their time plus the cost of blanks & they're probably not far off the cost of a new one.
(Or said locksmith isn't really a locksmith & can't do it and is really just a lock shop)

There's a lot of locksmiths that aren't locksmiths and are lock salesmen, they lack the skills to pick and usually force entry and replace locks and repair damage, seen it a lot and in this case the locksmith may well not have the required skills to do what you require. Cost of time would come into it too but a decent locksmith would be able to do it.

I had a bit of luck with My locksmith Robin, Called at his house one day to give him a few warding files that I had come across, Big skip in the drive, full of doors, kitchen cabinets etc, He had moved and the new owners were doing a full refurb, I noticed that the internal house doors all had 5 lever chubb locks fitted, even the pantry and small downstairs toilet, I asked the new owner if I could take the locks, he agreed, And while I was removing them came out with a great bunch of chubb keys for me, Excellent result, I knew that Robin had top class locks on front and back doors, but not every door in the house, All locks had different keys, but there were a couple of special keys the were masters that fitted every lock, He lived on his own and must have been a bit paranoid on security,

The last tumblers I changed were on the garage door there was no key so I set it up to open with a blank key I figured if anyone was going to pick it they wouldn’t expect it.

Inspired by this thread I dug my picks out and gave it a go. Got one of the practice locks open in seconds, but struggled a bit with the other one.

Then I went to a proper padlock (Master) and got it open as easy as if I had the key. What’s the point in having all that toughened steel if they come open that easily?

Mr Killock - (retired locksmith) on old man who lived in a bungalow in the next street to my parents (long dead).

Came and cut a key I lost for a safe - I watched him - got a key blank - blackened it with a candle flame - kept putting it into the lock - then filled it up to open the lock - I am still using the key to this date. I also had a copy done from the key he made from hand - and this works OK.


Nice chap - when I walk past his bungalow - dog walking - someone (new owner) has cut his prized apple trees down in the garden. I used to think these were the perfect shaped apple trees (a life times work) - he had pruned them so they were easy - low and wide to pick apples from.

He was a widower - he wife died early in his retirement. He had a fall in the street and our kids found him and picked him up and took him home. My wife used to run a few errands for him later in his life. She used to come home with loads of apples she picked and cook apple pies - and take the old man - a pie or two in thanks.


Proper old man - with a good sense of humour. If I bumped into him at the paper shop - he used to tease me "if your young wife keeps plying me with apple pies I will end up having to bed her!"
