I used these too, for a long time. The latest incarnation of that tyre is the ZV7. I think they're still made in Melksham just down the road from me. Someone here will know for sure. Good tyres.I used to run Avon tyres [Z33] for years and found them excellent, at the time they were the only tyres made in the UK other than Michelin but the Z33s are no longer made.
Now owned by the Cooper Tire company so they could be manufactured anywhere on the planet now I suppose.
I have a nearly smooth set on my Jag at the moment and looking for replacements. The OEM is the Dunlop Sport Maxx which stick to the road like s*** to a blanket, but they've only done 15k and need replacing already. I wouldn't mind so much but I don't drive like a hooligan (not all the time at least!).Dunlop slipeasies anyone?
Pick grip, or pick longevity, you can't have both 15k is superb for a set of modern grippy tyres. You'd struggle to get 12k out of a set of equivelent contisports.Dunlop Sport Maxx which stick to the road like s*** to a blanket, but they've only done 15k and need replacing already.
in layman's language . cheap tires not very good at road holding in the wet£
I only bought them for the rear, £197.00 for two not realy cheap.in layman's language . cheap tires not very good at road holding in the wet why didnt you say you just bough 2 new avon tires at a good price and they are a decent make
My mate had a Reliant 3 wheeler years ago. He was driving to work in heavy snow & it was all over the shop. A police car came up behind him, pulled him over wondering what he was up to. Mate pointed out that 2 rear wheels were on the road & the front was going through about 9 inches of slush & snow in the middle. Copper went Aaah & left him to it!Then you have never driven one, clearly. Roadholding is absolutely fine, provided you drive it without all the sloppy habits and assumptions that four wheeler drivers have.
I'm rapidly coming to this conclusion but it still surprises me. My old X Type (FWD) would get 20 - 22k from the fronts and around 50k from the rears (so an average of around 35k for the set) which were always OEM Pirelli's (I did over 240k in that car so a few sets!). before that, I remember getting around 25 -28k out of a set of Avon's on my SD1 Vitesse (RWD), and I did over 100k in that one. So 15k seems poor Still, they are bl**dy grippy, and my annual mileage has plummetted since the C-word put paid to my job!Pick grip, or pick longevity, you can't have both 15k is superb for a set of modern grippy tyres. You'd struggle to get 12k out of a set of equivelent contisports.
BMW used to insist on Metzelers and nothing else, back in the 2valve twin era, and if you used something else, the handling got even worse..I bought my motorcycle from someone who found it "top heavy" and unstable at low speed. I didn't believe a word of it and bought it unseen. When I rode it, it was borderline dangerous. As the tyres were on the limit anyway, I bought a pair of Bridgestone BT-020 tryes to replace the Avons that were on there. What a transformation! It now handles like my old 'bike. It just goes to show how important the right tyres are.
I also recall that my R100RT would "white line" with anything other that Metzeler ME888 on it. Mixing front and back was an interesting ride experience too.
Bloody awfulGoing on the front, 24,000 miles so not too bad I suppose
Must be a Massey Ferguson then.Bloody awful
Lowest mileage I've had out of some were 65,000 miles and they still had at least 6mm of tread when I replaced them, sidewalls were shot. Mind you they do start with about an inch of tread...
Was that a Q series.
I had one as a hire car for a couple of months about 4 years ago. when someone rear ended my old Rangie.
it had 30 miles on it when it was delivered and went back at 4000 as both front tyres had turned into slicks. No idea what flavour rubber it had fitted
Just put a set Toyo Proxes on the Grand Cherokee just could not justify another set of continentals if you get a puncture and its anywhere near the edge no repair it gets expensive to go with premium tyres also the wet handling with the Toyo's is very good i would not expect them to last as along as premium tyres but the Toyo's seem to be a good tyre for the price
