in layman's language . cheap tires not very good at road holding in the wet
why didnt you say you just bough 2 new avon tires at a good price and they are a decent make

I had Avons on my daily car until recently, I've just swapped them for Dunlops and only because I wasn't very impressed with the 12000 miles I got from the Avons. Other than that there was nothing wrong with them.
I can't tell exactly which tyre you put on, but the web site seems to say just over £95 per tyre at ATS. Asda tyres show the same price, but with £10 off if you buy 2 or 3 tyres, and £20 off if you buy four. You may have got a better deal at ATS, of course. At one point they did pretty good discounts for things like AA membership, only because they were expensive to start off with.

Excellent tyres - got 'em on my Caterham.
Got Michelin Pilot sports on my integrale - they must be over ten years old - (it wasn't used for a while) - they still grip remarkably well. I'd have another set, but they don't make 'em that small any more - 205/50/15.
Even on my bought from a scrap yard Peugeot I fit decent tyres - only things keeping you on the road - that one time you need to stop before mowing down that kid . . .

or running in to the back of another vehicle in the wet and stopping a foot behind it in time
then knowing for a fact a cheap tires stopping distance would have took a yard further
