Got the tyres wrong 900kg load index 104

Ok so plate cant be over 1800kg due to tyres & axle.
It needs a MLPM weight displayed on it.
From memory it needs a distinguishing ID re maker & number.
Your initials & 001 would do.
At 20 years old it pre dates IVA testing.
If no plate is found they use the tyre load index / lowest limit on a part to define MLPM.
As you have BE then the plate weight is not an issue re vehicle or licence limits only for actually over loading it.

If you had trailer for 30 years is safe to assume you have had licence for the same time so have BE

Why would you need to weigh empty trailer?

trailer is for winchBOY?
(who only passed last yr, IIRC?)

Empty trailer needs weighing for the "unladen weight" bit of the trailer plate, so an accurate (legal) capacity can be calculated.
(and also to satisfy my curiosity!)

WRONG

If vehicle is plated to 3500kg then you can still tow a trailer plated to 750kg.

as i said earlier. "my mistake, sorry!"

too late to edit, now.

good news for me, though.
it means I can tow my little trailer with the van!

Thanks for the info. I did get checked by vosa a few years ago, they never mentioned the plate they just had a very good look around the trailer and seemed impressed that it had working brakes.

You need the MLPM (trailer & load combined limit)
You can add:-
Each axle limit
Nose weight
Unladen weight

If you so desire

Thanks for the info. I did get checked by vosa a few years ago, they never mentioned the plate they just had a very good look around the trailer and seemed impressed that it had working brakes.

Plates are one of those very complex regs where dates matter hugely & even then the details needed are quite limited.
You could paint the MLPM on the draw bar & be ok in a lot of cases.

My Brian James car transporter has - although as its riveted to the inside of the deck edge, and I've dragged a fair few cars down it, its a bit illegible now . . .

Just get an old John Deere and he’ll get away with 18t on the back with brakes that are knackered, and nobody will say anything even when he takes the side off a car going down the local high street with his mrs sat on the mudguard and him sending a snapchat or 20 about his life as a grassman......

Sorry to jump on the thread here but seems to make sense...

What regulations do you need to follow if making a trailer from scratch?

Ce marked same as structural steelwork or just a iva/dvsa inspection once completed?

Im contemplating making a tractor drawn lowloader but might be to much paperwork involved!

@winchman - I copied this reply from a thread on a farming forum about a similar thing:

"First thing I would do is get the brakes tested at an HGV CENTRE not just give it a Tilly pass.
second thing is do is ask your insurance company to put in writing what needs doing to it to allow them to insure it on the road.
without either of those two I would NOT dare use it on the road. The next difficult question to ask yourself is... is the towing vehicle legal to tow it after the first two questions have been answered!
if you think I’m being silly and over cautious, please look up the fine given to Tophams over the very very sad fatal accident they had! The fine would break most businesses or families!
Edit, que all the JFDI comments now, none of those people will be willing to stand up in court or at a funeral should the worst happen"

Aside from the farming related comments read his last sentence a couple of times and digest it. Well meaning advice is all well and good but you're better off doing it properly because if the shtf you can guarantee that you'll find yourself on your own...

It will be done properly, thats why I asked in the first place, its just not worth the risk
