30 years ago those nails would be getting recycled too if they never came from a nail gunToday I acquired a stash of bulldog clips, seemed a shame to bin them

I wondered how and why @8ob had come across a skip full of them and what he intended doing with them.![]()

One of my weekend jobs as a lad, was to pick all the nails up and straighten them out for my dad.
Where's the crimp set from?
I was talking to a childhood friend overseas just the other day, and we were reminiscing about the both of us pulling nails from hundreds of boards my Dad use to salvage from demolition jobs. I remember straightening some of the larger spikes by squeezing them in the vise. Even though I had to had to work on some weekends as a kid, they were fun times, and my buddy and I got a fair amount of pocket money for our efforts. One of my weekend jobs as a lad, was to pick all the nails up and straighten them out for my dad.

Tax.……………………………………….. At the age of 12 (‘77) I was earning £2.50 per hour. It was a huge shock when I received my first proper wage at 15 £33 for 40hrs![]()
I don’t think I was earning enough once I started working to pay tax. £1ph was better than some were getting. Had to pay my mum £7.50 a week for digs, fill the tank on the bike, and the rest went on beerTax.
