I've always quite fancied a Schimitar GTE, I think a Volvo T5 would sit well in the front of one and make a real nice sleeper.
I friend of mine has one(not sure if he's still got it) with TVR Griffith drive train in it.
An LS would great because they probably not much bigger than the V6 that was already in there. Turn key crate motors 350-400bhp even in basic spec and will do 250K miles easily.

A little think about this. I’d put a transaxle in and move the engine. Might help keep the rear end on the floor in the right direction.
(My dad used to drive round with a bag of cement in the boot through winter)
That would have been in the days when a bag of cement weighed 1cwt and not the 25kg now.
Interesting idea, fair bit of work involved though. Could make it mid engined by removing back seats. There was also a prototype 4wd model done in 1972 shame it never made production.A little think about this. I’d put a transaxle in and move the engine. Sounds like a guy I work with, works van is a vauxhall movano with 6 speed gearbox but he will sit in 4th riding the speed limiter at 62mph. One of the reasons I will never buy an ex lease vehicle.
I used to go to Scrambles (they were called that then) with a school friend. He raced 125. Anyway his dad had a Triumph Herald with OD. But he wouldn’t use it, so we would sit at 60-70 on the Mway with the motor screaming its guts out.
An option on Vitesse, Spitfire, Gt6, but not the Herald, IIRC?
