I built quite a few PCs back in the day, 286,386,486,Pentiums. Used to go to the computer fairs that be would held in a local sports centre or similar. It was always cheaper than buying a branded machine and you knew you could just fit a generic replacement part. You would then spend hours loading software and fixing issues with software/driver conflicts. This was all before the internet was a thing.
