It's safe to say that you would have to be either very odd or very low in life to drink it regularly...

Iirc, the old time alcoholics used to filter meths through white bread [not sliced but with some of the centre scooped out] - apparently it removed whatever had been added, to leave the pure alcohol?

The ink firm I worked for used to stock 99.9% ethanol to use as solvent for a specific type of food-safe ink.
Every year, about this time, at least 20l would go missing.
It was actually quite nice with orange pop.

Many years ago my Mum and Dad's next door neighbour's SIL worked on the bins.

He was in the ale house every dinnertime and had to get his daughters, aged 12 and 13 at the time, to walk him home after one session as he was quite literally blind drunk. No longer with us, his liver predictably packed in after all that abuse...

This stuff was, literally, super concentrated vodka - No picric acid, no methanol, no dye.

Mixed 3pts water to 2pts solvent, you'd not be able to tell it from Smirnoff's finest.

Apparently, it was mixed with cheap wine, slowly adding more so the drinker built up a tolerance to the methanol. (The mix was known as "red biddy", which was also my usual tipple at Tate's wine bar, until they stopped selling it)

The treatment for methanol poisoning is to go on a "drip" of ethanol over several hours/days - it reacts with the methanol in the body so the kidneys can flush it out more effectively.

Some 'Friends' have been posting glitter to me because its 'funny'. I have explained how its not even faintly amusing and a complete waste of everyones time, but they seem to think that makes it funnier. At last somebody has worked out that posting useful stuff is a much better idea.

That brings back memories.
i was a member of the usenet group "uk.local.yorkshire".
We had "meetings" (drinking sessions) several times a year, and always seemed to end up in the Duck+Drake in Leeds.
Old Peculier on draught.
The first time we went, we emptied 2 barrels - basically what he sold in a month - in one afternoon.
Subsequently, I always went in to warn him to expect us, so he could put a bulk order in.

It's sort of like strong guinness, but without the bloating effect, which makes it easy to drink 12 or 15 pints without realising.
It's really the only beer that I like - and only from the D&D. Most other pubs: it's not so good.

I'm hoping they have a good selection of Yorkshire ale to peruse as I quite fancy some Old Peculier. Me and our kid always used to get a 5 gallon barrel of Timothy Taylor's Landlord at Christmas so a few bottles of that wouldn't go amiss either. Not sure if Websters is still around, I think Sam Smiths brew it at Tadcaster .
