Ironically you'll have to join a Zoom meeting.

Not sure if you can't be thru in the kitchen boiling the kettle. Maybe you'll have to sit up straight, take notes, and nod respectfully into the webcam when the speaker makes a somber point about increased stopping distances at speeds greater than 30mph.

Other half had one the other week - she quite enjoyed it. An elderly chap on it fell asleep! Bloke taking it was clapping hands and shouting to wake him up - he was a little bit embarassed

I did mine on the pc wasnt as bad as I expected. Just like anyother online meeting thing. Far better than an hour an a half each way to a course

I did a speed awareness course online through Zoom about 2 weeks ago
It was easy
You need Zoom and a device that has a camera and microphone ie your phone

they send you the passwords etc just before the date.....you can log onto zoom for a practice

Very easy when the same road switches from 30-40-30-40 etc for no apparent reason. Poorly illuminated signs, obscured by other signs or greenery. Its an easy way to earn money.

Not happy first "offence" since 2001

Always has been , they needed to be 83yds apart (or some other random number) now 3 lights count as a reduced speed limit

round our way the speed camera traps are parked and aimed so you got no way of spotting them before they got you
1. round a corner and hes only 100 yards up road the road is a 30 was reduced from a 40 a few years ago but a road that leads off of it as more near thinner road and a small bridge is a 50

2.a road that goes round a corner on a steep hill that goes to a 30 limit and as you go passed the sign the coppers are 80 yards away

3.a large road that used to be a 60 limit is now a 40 (for what reason i dont know there has been very few or no accidents)
as you go over the top of the hill there is a layby only 100 yards and its trained on you before your over the hill

...for cars not towing and as only if there isn't a repeater sign. Otherwise as signposted or 50 for cars towing, heavy motorhomes, buses, and goods vehicles. I think the limit is lower still for HGVs in Scotland.

Wish they could make it simpler!

I did one a few years ago. Quite good. Left the hotel where it was held feeling calm and with the mindset of there was no need speed. Got a a few miles away and cars were up my back end trying to push me on. Found myself suddenly as a sane driver in an insane world noticing all the speeding. Other drivers can force you to drive "differently" if you feel like you're not fitting in to the current traffic conditions and not making progress. Admittedly, if a car is right up my rear I tend to slow down even more - how low can you go before they consider overtaking.

My new car has road sign recognition and monthly updated maps including speed limits and camera locations. The speed limiter is linked to both and be set to continuously update the set speed to match.

Even it has problems knowing what the prevailing limit really is. Two specific 'local' problem areas I am aware of and careful about for different reasons.

One is where the Highway Agency guidelines don't support a reduced limit on a national speed limit single carriageway. So they put up a 40 or 50 sign with a black border - advisory only and unenforceable. Several such in the area, but the car isn't programmed to differentiate colour. I can and I know what the hazard the sign supposedly protects actually presents. So I can make my own measured dynamic risk assessment and select an appropriate speed but have to slow down for grockles who can't. Irritating but not costly.

Another is the infamous Brynglas Tunnel on the M4 where the variable speed limit is invariably 50 whenever I have the misfortune to drive the route.

All fine except traveling eastbound the gaps between the 'repeaters' exceeds the required distance and the car reverts to 70mph limiter for a few hundred yards before seeing the next 50mph sign. I know about that quirk and hold off resuming a normal cruise at that point, but I am regularly overtaken by those who don't - or are even better informed locals who know exactly where the in-service cameras are!

I got caught some time ago further east on the M4 where long-standing road works had a 'temporary' 50 mph limit but again inadequate repeaters, so about a mile after the last coned off section I reset the cruise to '70mph' to meet a random 50mph sign a mile further on. No there was no realistic option to appeal because by the time I got the NIP all the 'temporary' signs and coned off sections had been relocated and the dashcam files overwritten. I still don't know how many lives and limbs I put at risk by this dangerous activity of mine!

So it isn't always a case of the driver not paying attention - it can be a case of the relevant information not being presented to the driver in a usable form!

mine has that plus it will control your speed to the limit, whatever it is..........but you have to switch it on.....at the end of the course he asked everyone what are their future plans to stick to speed limits........mine was to switch the bloody thing on....i havent of course...

[/QUOTE]il tell you how low 19 miles per hour following a stupid cow who was talking to her friend and not paying atention on the road for 2 miles it would be nice to reach the speed limit and do 30mph it hissed me off so i overtook and slowed back to 30mph but the filth were behind me with a camera and i couldnt see him because no center mirror in the van .. if he hadnt the evidence id have told him where to go and denied it alas no the camera didnt lie . cant win em all
