I remember Stones bitter had the same reputation in the early 90s.
That had a different gas bottle (can't remember what, though).

Went on a trip to the Stones Brewery in Sheffield some years ago.

Out of 11 pubs and 2 clubs in our village, (the 80's were a seriously time ), only 1 was Stones and it tasted like tap water. The stuff at the brewery, on the other hand, was pure nectar.

The Vikings in Goole was a BASS house, they had all their parties etc there. Beer was always well kept.

I was brought up on Tetleys, an aquired taste by all accounts. Was like drnking milk when it was on. You certainly knew about a bad pint the following day

Our kid used to take the top off a pint of Tetleys then top it up with a Barley Wine .

Saturday night was our favourite night out down at our local where the beer was good and so was the craic, back in the good old days when we went in the tap room if we were in our working clothes but went in the best side when we were pressed and dressed. One time he was in for 7 o'clock, back when chucking out time was 11. I got down 45 minutes after him by which time he was gone . (Still no idea how he got smashed out of his tree in 45 minutes ) I asked him what he wanted and he thought about it for a few seconds as even his speech had gone by then, and what he tried to say was "I'll have a Barley Wine with the top off". What he actually said, which had me crying with laughter, was "Al a bobble wobble..."

From that day onwards Barley wine become known to us as Bobbly Wobbly .

New parts for the whipper too, I bought two second hand ones but they were missing some bits. Coffee is currently steeping, I'll filter and nitrogenate it tomorrow morning, I'm quite excited.

Supposedly different gases make quite a difference, the roaster I get beans from has tried helium and said it's better than nitrogen but it was just a personal experiment, food grade helium he would need to sell it would make it prohibitively expensive. He suggested I try using welding argon but I haven't gotten around to it yet. One day.

It's done. It tastes...

Alright I suppose. No nicer than without the nitrogen.

I think if I made a better coldbrew to begin with it would have been much better. I used 10:1 water to coffee, some recipes online go as much as 4:1 . I also just arbitrarily opened the grinder up a couple of clicks from where I had it for pour over and it, no idea where it should be (More specifically than just "Coarse"). It was a very light roast too, I imagine something darker would extract better in cold water. I'll have a chat with the roaster soon, he supplies nitro coldbrew in corny kegs to local coffee shops so should be able to point me in the right direction.

It's probably a good thing it's not amazing anyway, it's got to be the most expensive way to make coffee (Short of just buying it from Costa ).

Yet another vice, I felt most I have were too big or a bit small for my Centec, so picked up this ebay bargain at £20.80, looks nicely made on dovetailed slide with a cast brass mounting for the screw, very heavy for its size. I will clean it up and turn up a neater lever on the lathe, just need to drill the mounting to suit the Centec mounting.

Excellent idea - may do that, i suspect it is an apprentice piece.
