Today I acquired a Wanner brand grease gun and a small keyring light, then a welder friend stopped by and gave me a pair of leather gloves. View attachment 261832

Really good grease guns, I’ve got 2 in the shed, bought to service my fathers car when I was about 16, 71 now & they still work. Only thing is I haven’t got a car with grease nipples on, I ought to donate them to my son for his Landy ....no, I’m kind of attached

...There is definitely something wrong with it and all of the manuals I have read strongly advise not taking it apart.

To me, taking off only the bottom plate to look at it is the best balance between risk and reward. If you have something that does not work at all, what do you have to lose? I would think that they are made so the magnetism goes upwards in normal use rather than down into the base. It would be interesting to turn one upside down and see how the base behaves when the lever is moved.

I had an Eclipse mag chuck, previous owner had dismantled it and it had lost its magnetism.

Don't know how far he stripped it and it was just sat in the corner for a while, I think @Screwdriver now has it

Next on my list is N2 cartridges to try nitrating it like Guiness.

New parts for the whipper too, I bought two second hand ones but they were missing some bits. Coffee is currently steeping, I'll filter and nitrogenate it tomorrow morning, I'm quite excited.

Supposedly different gases make quite a difference, the roaster I get beans from has tried helium and said it's better than nitrogen but it was just a personal experiment, food grade helium he would need to sell it would make it prohibitively expensive. He suggested I try using welding argon but I haven't gotten around to it yet. One day.

To keep things short and following post #25478, I phoned the hospital to get the latest bloods results [the Consultant didn't have them on Monday during our phone call as the lab-work was late] and the protein reading is now down [again] to 3.7!! Better than even they expected, I suspect.

All the other results are also down but in the right direction, so very happy bunny here! If I can keep going on this drug until the next development in treatment comes along, I could be bothering you all for quite some time! ......

Some independent (read expensive) coffee shops (And Starbucks apparently) have it on tap, Nam Song in Sheffield is where I first tried it.

Never heard of it, kinda curious how bad it can be now.

Admittedly, its as much about playing with it as it is about something to drink, I like messing about in the kitchen.

Espresso would be different, not necessarily better or worse. Probably would be easier, especially if my machine didn't look like this ;

It was so bad the stopped brewing it, the local was selling it off at £1, would have been rude not to take advantage. We all knew what the hangover was like, didnt stop us, most of drunk 12pint over a afternoon early evening slug. Jezz wish I hadnt my head man

As for espresso machines, they spend all day working out how to blow a seal. I have to service mine every 4/6mths.

A new inset electric fire. The old gas fire was getting to the point where it was becoming uneconomical in terms of servicing costs. One small bonus is some solid brass furniture which will end up at the scrappies when the time is right. No great problems fitting it other than having to widen the galvanised fire box the quick and crude way (we need a hammering smiley) and the usual hassle in threading the power cable through the wall and skirting. Two feet at the rear of the fire's body are adjustable but not quite enough to allow the fire to stand level. A quick trip to the workshop to make a couple of brass shims to place under the front took care of that. The fire has a pretty good holographic flame effect which is enhanced by a mix of clear chunks of acrylic which shine like embers, some fake bits of coal and one or two fake logs. All in all, very pleased with it.

The only negative outcome of the exercise is that my knees and back are now giving me hell.

I remember Stones bitter had the same reputation in the early 90s.
That had a different gas bottle (can't remember what, though).
