cheaper to buy a decent second hand chuck completeJaws for imperial chucks can be a unpleasant financial experience
don't talk rotIf you ever pull a bulker full of scrap, sling the chuck in with the other junk and drop it all at the scrappy.
Then buy a 4 jaw and do it properly. 3 jaw chucks are for 1st year apprentices and people with very little idea how to turn.

It is rare I use a 4 jaw, really only when it is an odd shape or if it needs offset.
If I am making a complete part in one hit then hard jaws in the 3 jaw.
If I am needing to grip something perfectly true then it is usually soft jaws in the 3 jaw.
More than I knew yesterday, not as much as I will tomorrowPfft what would you know

I listened to your advice but I’m now 3 days late on a batch job, can’t hold any hex for the next job and qa has gone up the wall cos I’m no longer using soft jawsIf you ever pull a bulker full of scrap, sling the chuck in with the other junk and drop it all at the scrappy.

4 jaw self cantering lolConfidence has nothing to do with it.
It's about ability imo, and I will always maintain that 3 jaw chucks are inferior to 4 jaws for someone who knows what they're doing.
