Another question...

I've a Volvo v70.

I can borrow a suitable trailer.

Is that even feasible or do I need to hire something to move it, more suitable?

just under 2 tons ,, newer disco is the heavy one at over 2.5 tons.

trouble is it will be worse on the inside ,,, two times the rust pits on the out side does not leave a lot

2.5 k may buy the chassis , but it wont finish there ,, poly bushes ruin what is all ready a very poor ride , and the extra vibes help bits fall off , so bad that even poly bush have brought out softer ones , seriously just put in original bushes and replace them , the one exception being series vehicle chassis bushes for spring hangers.

Dunno as polybushed the trailing arms front and back on my 1992 90 and didnt know too much difference but then was jacked up 2 inches and on 235/85/16 tyres so already was death wobble.

Where should I look, apart from everywhere....

If the bulkhead, panels and running gear are all good/salvageable its just about ok, any more than that give it a wide berth. There are still on the road 110`s here for around the 3k mark that would be a lot less work.The silly priced ones dont sell.

I've owned 5 x Series and a Defender. All suffered from horrendous bimettalic corrosion. Worse was rear tub where it bolts to the steel chassis. When you try and go back to solid alu I found that what looks like a little around the bolt holes is in fact up to 6" that is affected and need cutting out.
If you are in France look out for a UMM Alter - far superior (I have a Transcat ). They have with bullet proof Dana axles and Peugeot diesel engine. Chassis rarely needs any work unless it's been used in the sea and then they are made from common box section steel that is 6mm thick ! OK body can have rust issues but is 2mm thick steel so easy to weld in repair sections.

Could you expand on that comment please.

Its one of the modern versions of waxol , only acf actually works , you will use it on everything and every where on a land rover , and keep doing so every two years till you run out of time , money or interest .
I do a fair few repairs to land rovers , and I give two years warranty on every job I do , no questions asked , the only way I can do that is by using acf 50.
again , others may not agree ,, in my view they are wrong lol ,, i swear by acf50 . Its expensive but its actually cheap . Hope that makes sense.

Agreed UMM's are pig ugly however once you'd owned a Land Rover, and weigh up the constant amount of money that needs spending plus weekly maintenance, then you will realise there are far better vehicles out there to consider. A neglected Defender 2.5 petrol will be a MASSIVE money pit to get up to a decent level.
