Many moons ago I owned an Evo 4. 300 odd bhp. Lovely noise from the exhaust and turbo spooling.

I had a 520bhp cosworth and the petrol vs diesel noise is night and day

...................... and the older ones on the road are a mix of enthusiastically maintained reliable vehicles and unmaintained vehicles that are rugged enough to keep on the road but do breakdown.

I was only jesting You've hit the nail on the head regarding maintaining LR's as opposed to other 4x4's which are just as capable. Many LR owners are of the mindset that because they're a LR, they'll go on forever being used and abused without having do anything other than add fuel!

The trouble is, the Cossie could be a money pit Bet you wish you still had the RC45! (Assuming you no longer have it).

I made good money on my Cossie, and profit is the only reason I wish I still had mine now. The need for speed on the road has long gone - the joys of becoming a mature 'adult'

Compat tested it today. It passed. I was hoping the bikes would go in it. One of the horn buttons was taped on as it kept popping out. One of the clips had broken off so made one from a bit of perspex. Attending to the spotlights, the seals have failed and waters got in.

Oh and the stereo will turn up to 11 without distortion

my he horn button is such a rover issue! Always remember my mate beeping at girls on the embankment as the horn button flew off

I replaced my Defender one earlier this year when that happened, looked same part of my old 1982 MG Metro, at least they are cheap.

todays job was spending £100 on bulbs... its got quite a mish mash of blue ones, white ones, an led sidelight a normal seidelight etc. a previous owner has spent money go fastering it, which means ( yet to be confirmed) that its had a k+n filter fitted, which probably needs cleaning.

dip beam and main beam are H7. the spotlamps Im fettling did have 100 watt H1's in, which were like miners lamps so I need to check the (taped up) wiring. the front fogs are H11 which arent cheap. got them from autobulbs direct and managed to get the same make/colour temperature of bulb throughout.

thought Id best do all the bulbs as the headlights are fogged along the top so need a tickle with some farecla G3 so they will have to be removed.

Headlights are easy enough to remove. A firm tug will have them out of the plastic holders. Beware though, the little white holder you headlamp secures to (theres 3 IIRC) often break and as I found out it was really handy to have them in before removing them. They are cheap enough from ebay.

Are the headlamp levelling motors a “feature” one of them just cycles backwards and forwards on any switch position other than 0, and other one doesnt appear to do much. Im guessing dry joints/nylon gears/microswitches ?

I had one stop working on my Defender, I just bought a good used replacement from ebay for about £20. I think new ones are quite expensive.

They are good bits kit from GL, look well made. I'd love one but the price is a little too rich for me tbh. I bought that prop shaft socket the moment i got home and my smaller dewalt impact gun makes easy and quick work replacing them on the drive. I keep the spanners in the truck for getting me out of the proverbial at the roadside.

TBH I wish I'd have carried a spare prop a few weeks back when my D2 decided to let go on the A38 near Derby. Could have had the old one off and the new one on in minutes, instead of the 3 hour wait and £100 bill to get me home on the back of the wagon

No difflock? Could have taken the front one off and driven it home with the centre diff locked...

I did check for difflock. There was nothing there in terms of a stub i could turn to engage it.

Thats a shame. I had to do it on the 110 once. Just rear wheel drive. Makes it handle very differently but does get you on the road again. My D2 doesnt have difflock either so it would be a recovery truck for me too if it happened on that.

If they’re the same leveller motors used on the td5 defender headlight, I’ve some brand new ones say here doing nowt
