They give a brilliant point, that’s for certain, but the cost of the wheels and the green gloop that goes in them is an arm and a leg, the sight glass goes black and it’s a right nightmare cleaning the thing out!

i agree there , should last for ages though
some guys dont use the setting gauge
and ram the holder in taking a big gouge out the wheel

The GBC one is holding up well so far, the lads vastly, VASTLY prefer it to the bench grinder anyway

It's just a plain diamond wheel with a nicely built guide. No good for thoriated, it's non-extracted. But it's fine since we switched to lanthanated a few years back.

i have used the Ultima ones a lot
enclosed diamond wheel with liquid
work very well ! downside £1500 ish
if your 100 ft up a tower or jammed in a corner its good old angle grinder still got all me fingers after 40 years

My pal Paul takes a dozen or more pre sharpened electrodes at both ends in each size with him if he's tigging outside of the workshop area where there might be problems in getting them sharpened .
When he came to our place to weld up some high level frame work I saw why as he changed his electrodes some 12 foot up whilst on a ladder .

Get a valve grinder. Some are quite cheap can easily be used for tig electrodes.

A bit too simple. Does not inspire me to pay £750 for it.
To be fair the diamond wheel is over £200 of that but I would still not be that happy with £500 for something that looks that homemade.

I also thought the collects were ridiculously expensive but I see that price is for a pack of 5.
Would anybody ever need 5 of them?
I have never noticed any signs of wear on mine?

I bet they're just welding collets. Sod tungstens, a 750 quid grinder better have a good go at sharpening end mills if it wants a spot in my garage! It's not even cast iron.


I get that these things are supposed to be safer but who's swinging welders and angle grinders around day in day out but worried they're gonna get hurt sharpening tungstens?

You is havin a bloody Laarrrrf! I have given better built grinders away. The wheels are £27.10p from Ketan over at Arceurotrade and an electric motor is bobbins. Bit of tin and powder coat. The most expensive part is probably the polycarbonate sheet because of Covid!

I've come to the conclusion that this gives far better results and a better 'grain' than the wee Dremel attachment I bought from the US on eBay; two slow-speed 200mm CBN (cubic boron nitride) wheels - use the sides of the wheels as they're not used for my woodworking or woodturning tools.

Setting a small jig or holder for the tungstens will be a winter project.

Those are some beefy diamond wheels!

My little cup wheel is still holding up just fine must have used it many hundreds of times and never moved the position yet. The other nice thing with grinding on the flat rather than the circumference is that the tip of the tungsten isn't scalloped, so holds up better without ever spitting off.

Bought the system a few years ago so no doubt the wheels may have been cheaper back then. Did sell my Sorby ProEdge sharpening system to fund it!

Shiny but over kill imho. Unless you can consistently move the tungsten over the whole wheel it will soon start to cut groves.

I’ve used this for the last 7/8yrs cost 14quid.
