Just found this of a different type of staircase I made a few years ago,had barnshaws press me some floor plate,sandwich between channel,quickest stairs I’ve ever made.

A fiver. A woman brought a bread maker round as'The paddle thing doesnt go round' so I tapped it with a hammer handle and now it does.she got a speaker thing out of the cat that had a
stuck battery in it, so I banged it on the bench and the battery dropped out, about a minutes 'Work and she forced a fiver on me.Wish I got that hourly rate a bit more often...

Fitted rather than made but I've brought my old (but new to me) Marlow Mill up to date with a DRO kit. I've checked it using dial indicators and it's spot on. I didn't enjoy drilling holes into the old cast iron. Was really worried I might break something. Only one of the drilled holes ended up noticably sideways but I was drilling up from underneath and it was a bit awkward. I also did my first ally tig weld on something that mattered rather than just practicing. The ally angle bracket on the z axis needed a piece adding to it so a couple of lap welds were required. I nailed it on the second one after welding too cold originally. The mill got employed to make a couple of new slots on the bracket too.


Now I've finished I think that I should have put the z axis scale slot facing away from the table rather than towards it. I'll fit a cover over it to keep the swarf out.

Edit: Forgot to mention the lathe got used on this install as well as I had to make a couple of pairs of bosses to stand the scales and brackets away from the machine.

Made my Bedford S type trucks brake master cylinder look like new again, got it back yesterday after it had a full rebuild with new seals etc, just the wheel cylinders to do and she will be back on the road....

Only other update is that a neighbourhood cat is pooing on the gravel. Obviously overexcited at the giant cat litter tray I have kindly built them.

It won't kill/seriously harm the cat but will 'sting' enough to discourage it from returning.

Plasticine or BlueTack make good ammunition's for scaring cats, I've even used small green tomatoes. It doesn't do any damage to the cats but a couple of shots on target (the glass eye socket) and they'll soon bypass your garden.

3 humans and a TYA sorted it.
I drank coffee and watched.
This workmate arrived, needing new handles (HOW Much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and some fixings.
Not a standard size.


Job one remove the top and fix.




Tap one hole on each side to M6, used 2 original screws, one per side. A good repair.



Leather washers, my advice as I knew what was going to happen.



Whillting handles from oak, was not my idea. But they work, roll pins and glue help, a lot!!!!!!!!!!!






It works and it can be used.

You forget, I have 2 cats, so complaining about someone else’s cat behaviour is a bit hypocritical.

Some things you just have to live with. Unless my 18 year old cat sees them. He chases two cats I call the mocha brothers out of the garden, by shouting “gerroff my land” and “I’m 93 you know, and got all my own teeth”, while waving a metaphorical walking stick at them.

It's an extruder for making 3D printer filament, this design but machined from solid rather than grinding the seam out of a bit of black iron pipe. Shredded plastic (Unwanted PLA 3D prints thrown in a blender) is fed in by the auger, the gold thing is a band heater which melts the plastic, hopefully enough to push it through the nozzle (Supposedly a 1.35mm nozzle makes a 1.75mm filament ).


Picture is maybe ten minutes after plugging it in (Straight to the mains for now, it'll have a PID controller in use), PLA is supposed to soften about 140 deg and printers run about 215 so it should be plenty. The flange got to 100 degrees too, that'll be bolted to an ABS hopper in use, I'd imagine the flow of melting plastic will cool it a little but I won't be surprised if the ABS melts. I need to post it to my friend who's idea it was, he's got a printer, all the other parts and all the electronics, I'm just doing the metalwork. I might start a thread once he's tested it, if it's any good (I won't lie, I'm sceptical ) it should be well worth the effort.

Got these 10" pipe grips restored today.
Not sure on the original paint scheme, but it'll do.
Using rusty old tools isnt a good look when you're working with shiney stuff.
They're mainly just for home, but sometimes having an extra pair is handy so they will end up in the work box from time to time I'm sure.
Big bro is underway now too.

This brace arrived in my care the other day.
Fluid sprayer and a medium size blow torch.

Plant sprayer.



In bits, the item second from the bottom is an alloy rod, with brass fittings, in a steel handle.

This image it had been remade.



Hand cleaning and polishing. it was night time, so no power tools.


Blow torch.

A PITA.



It is not a brass body, all the fittings are well stick, but I have a plan. Not a cunning plan. But a plan.



Make a new handle.


Strip the paint and clean up as a unit.





De rusting. Vinegar and flour.

I just sandblasted 5 pairs and painted them black. all over not as posh as yours but functional .I don't like rusty gear but don't have to be showroom condition your cleaned up ones seem to have shrunk

Not that posh... twist knot brush all over, iron paste on moving jaw, blue spray on rest, then just shine up the cheeks with an interleaved polishing pad.
I did give the teeth a very light tickle with a cutting disc to restore their bite.
