We did it in first year, I thought it looked cool so I kept it, broke the corners and drilled a hole in it.
I'd imagine the lab was designed such that it wouldn't break, so there'd be a big, obvious difference between that and the the sample cooled in liquid nitrogen.It must have been a good one....they usually break in two
