Leaking gear box

I'm in the middle of cleaning up a cold cut saw and thought I'd clean out the inside and give it a freshen up with new oil and new gaskets and o rings.

However I have put it all back together

Gone to put new oil in and its leaking from this which is where the blade attaches at first I though the o ring was still leaking

However it turns out its leaking through the inside through the bearings, but its sort of a gradual leak so I am thinking a seal gas broken but I'm only guessing, but I don't know how to strip it down any further than I already have. Any help appreciated

That shaft looks tapered ?.. it might tap outwith a brass drift from the other side . The bearing looks to be a temperature differential press in fit . You will need a new one if you go any further . If it's a very gradual leak , I would call it self lubrication through a total loss system aka old pre unit motorcycle , stick it back together , keep topping it up and leave it to develop .

what grade oil did u use....?
think I'd be using something like ep90, thats the old fashioned car gearbox-back axle / differential oil.....
the self oiling idea works if it's leaks just a little, I mean it just gets wet.........
if u've used say engine oil the upgrade to the ep90 will stop it.....well allmost....
let us know what u've used please.....
for all my oldfashioned gearboxes in CARS I now use the American LUCAS Synthetic oils......U cant use em on motorcycles with a wet clutch tho....

I've had this problem and used a specific oil in france we call it " huile filante" no idea in english, it creates some sort of strands of oil, very stick, used it in old car gearboxes when the synchros are worn

I thnk it's used for chainsaws as well, but a bit more fluid

same as chainsaw oil....long strand molecules......I compare this oil to CHILD SNOT....hahaha.....
but I'd still try ep90 if u have used eng oil tho...
the chainsaw oil I use on the exposed back gears on my lathes......just a few drops when it's running.....

I used gear box oil from a friend not sure what it is, he buys it in bulk so hot my some. Its more than just a small drip. I g i filled it up to the correct level it would empty itself out within a day probably

Not that small of a leak is the problem it probably leaked 50ml over about 15 minutes. Just dripping out.

I asked some people and its got a fill cap on the side and people recommended filling it to that level. But since then I have tried it and many different variations of oil fill level.

So does that mean I will have to take apart the whole thing and replace the seal. And would I then have to replace the bearings

the little plug doesn't unscrew. The whole thing probably pulls out from this direction but I think you would need a press or something.

I think your right so I'm not really sure what to be doing with it now I don't really want to take it all apart. Do you think I could seal it without taking it all apart.
