So after playing with me new toys all day I finally figured out why I’ve been blowing speakers and managed to blowone of the new tweeters as proof
The power cables to my amps are fine, the RCA cables from my head unit to the amps are fine and the cables from my amps to my speakers are fine.
The original cables to my head unit however are undersized.
I didn’t think this would be a problem as I’m not using the head unit to power anything really, just the RCA outputs, serves me right for not checking before.
Spent ages finding the cause and will be going to work with only 1 speaker working as I didn’t have time to fit the other one or hook up the sub properly.
Still it’ll be better than having to use my phone speaker.
Orange is the speaker signal yellow is the RCA signal.
Not clipping signal
Clipping signal
You can see the RCA signal just clipping at its peak and how big an effect this has in the speaker signal.
