any pics? how long do they stay sharp

I use them regular going through cavity brick walls and get a fair few holes through without having to touch them up on the green stone. as long as there sharpened before well blunt otherwise they just burn out and u have to chuck them out just looked in garage the other day and I have over 40 long sds drills that I scored for 2 quid a piece at car boot sales some are mint others just need touching up

whats the green stone made out of I need new stones for my 6" selecta grinder, would i be best with sharpened masonry bits to drill my concrete fence posts

if u have a powerfull sds slow speed impact drill they work well but not much good on a light faster impact drill

It’s very soft. No good for tungstens or HSS as you’ll just wear it out.

sharpening the carbide wears them quick as well when sharpening the tips its best to move the drill back and forth over the face of the grinding wheel so it wears evenly as it will put a groove in it real quick if u don't

the makita 6kg is adjutable speed as is the other 2 sds drills i have so should be perfect

Green stones are designed to be soft, Used for grinding tungsten carbide etc, They are made with a soft binding material, so that they do wear down more rapidly and therefore exposing new sharp grit particles to cut better on the carbide drills and lathe tools etc,

As Gordon says, the good ones sold over here were Freihei (sp?). They no longer trade.

Interesting that in some of the pictures they have a curved conical tip, like a tile drill, and in others a straight-sided conical tip.

Put '6542 HSS carbide' into Google and take your pick. HSS is steel; carbide is carbide.

Maybe it is like WD40 and this was the 6542'nd mixture.

They might do all the materials listed, but probably none of them no where near as good as the proper type of bit for the job...
The ones with lifetime guarantees make me laugh.... £9.99 return postage, and we'll send a replacement bit.
Yeah, and every time they replace one they make about £8.

With the correct bit and and technique it's not hard.

If you need to drill hard steel buy solid carbide drills like Dormer R458

I use masonry bits on stainless fairly often , have done for years and thats not with any regrind , just dont use the hammer function.

I'm sure if you've been doing it for a while you already know, but for others, don't forget that the sides wear as well as the face. Not a problem for a lot of jobs but for putting in concrete screws/Thunderbolts in particular, a worn down bit doesn't cut a big enough hole.

How are you finding the quality , a decent drill bit is getting harder to find these days.
Maybe its a reflection an the quality of steel stock , some of it just seems bitty these days , sort of inclusion ish , for the want of a better description , sort of like peanut brittle at times .

they only sell them as a set and wont sell them individualy but say they will replace one if u bust it

If this is similar to the QVC advertised ones then they do replace them but the postage was rediculous for the return.
