what monies do they fetch these days? £3/400?
thats a good ball park , maybe more for something nice ,Forged in Fire has driven up the price of anvils , but if you look hard they still turn up painted blue standing in gardens beside cow tail pumps and ploughs ..
I bought a 1/3 size anvil in mint condition a few years ago , perfect for the back of the car when it needs to go to a repair job some where ,,

seen good ones at ruffoth autiojumble for under 250 if postage wasn't such a killer and people could pick stuff up a lot of money could be had for just buying and selling going on prices people will pay

Many, many years ago I found a large anvil in a scrap yard. I was told it I could move it then I could have it for free. Two of us couldn't move it 1mm !
Mother in law just said we can have her one, Happy days! It is a dirty great 4 1/2 Cwt job & been standing in her garden for 40 odd years, Its not in the best of condition as its sway backed & has a gas axe cut down one side but we know it came out of the village blacksmiths shop next to the Hoy & Helmet pub that closed down in the early 60's when the road was widened. I have no doubt that it is centuries old.
The nice thing is my son has built a forge & its being put back to use 300 yards from where it came from.
We have just spent an afternoon of quality time trying out the new forge, its a sideblast with homemade watercooled tuyere. Plenty of heat in fact quite capable of melting big things if you leave them in too long. Try & sort some transport for the anvil this week.

should have pinched it and then u would be able to
look at the face ,, its in such nice order ,, could you buy them a wooden wheel barrow , or a half barrel and do a swap .Spotted in Sandwich in 2018. I assume they're trying to stop the triffid being stolen

My anvil is just 1cwt. I bought it on Gumtree before the rush started for the princely sum of £20.

That's a familiar name. I was reading a book on the sailing barges of the east coast and the pub got several mentions. I happened to drive past it last year, but was running late, so couldn't stop for a pint. I'll get there one day.
