As you may be aware I have a TecArc Opticut 65 plasma cutter and there is a problem with it in that the current drops away whilst cutting.
It starts dropping relatively fast, maybe 1amp for 10 seconds then as time goes on the rate of decent slows and it seems to settle out at about 10 amps or so lower than the initial current.
I had some communication from TecArc and they had never seen anything like it before and said to check there was nothing loose. I couldn't find anything so it was suggested it could be the PCB and they said to send either the complete plasma down or even just the PCB and they would check it over. I can't afford to be without a plasma as although I don't use it every day I may get a job in at any time and require it right away.
I opted to buy a new PCB and 3 weeks later I eventually got it but it made no difference, the problem was exactly the same.
There is not a lot else in the plasma, basically some transformers, a rectifier, a capacitor and an IGBT.
This is the IGBT,

it is not massively expensive but does anyone know if it could be causing my problems? My thinking is that it would be more likely to either work or not work but as I know nothing of electronics it is just purely speculation on my part.
