Metal bender on Ebay

I've just seen this on Ebay and thought that would be quite easy to make, however I have a few reservations about it do people thing seeing it's only two piese of round holding it all up do you think it could really do with extra support? Also what thickness do people think it would bend and how would you make or where to buy the teeth or whatever they're called for pressing the metal into the V. Interested to know peoples opinions on it, it's for sale for £250

The first video shows avery well built bender. I was just thinking space wise a small one would be quite handy but I see where your coming from a press would be easier

If you dont need to move it , Id go press route , but to be able to throw a small press brake in the boot of your car and go from job to job is handy ,, but that would make a really good diy project.
Second hand discovery jack , at say 20 quid , and the same in steel ,,, and keep you out of bother for a day.

I have a few bits and pieces of 10mm plate hanging around that would work. I was thinking it would be handy for just making a few 90 brackets in 5mm x 50mm flat bar. But once I start making one it might just be easier to wait and buy a small press, however I dont want to buy something massive that's going to take up loads of room l.

it's totally overpriced.......so easy to make.......the dearest bit is the jack and a 5 tonner on ebay for £20 squids.......
I have one of those cheapy jacks ...works well, no leaks and comming up for 8 years old.....
hardest bit is getting the knife edge done..but even thats doable at home.......

For bending some brackets in 5x50 flat bar something like this is likely to do the job, although it is going to take up space -

How would you do the knives edge ?

I used an angle grinder to do the edge on this, the blade is just a lump of 6mm I didn't view it as particularly accurate as long as the angles fitted inside the two bits of angle iron at the bottom
it is sitting in a cheap chinese 20ton press


edit: didn't try and bend that bit of bar, it was just to hold up the top blade. It has bent 6mm x 50mm to a right angle when asked though

I kind of like it Jack, if you value your time I would say its reasonably priced.For a bench top press I would give it the

So long as you dont try folding over its capacity. If you do. I think it will bend the uprights either above or below the lower arm.

I made a real rough and ready one for my press so I could bend some 6mm stainless baffles for my stove.
It worked well but the stainless was surprisingly difficult to bend, think it needed 20t.
If you have a press it's a cheap and quick way to try it out.

I have thought of making a proper one since, but it hasn’t made it to the top of the list yet.
My blade wasnt deep enough but I knew that when I was making it.

Seeing as its got removable fingers, that would be well handy for car body repairs or similar thicknesses.

I am thinking if you bought this you would have a tool to do a job and it would always be there to do it but....

If you bought a press and made a bender to use in it you could do more jobs than you could with just this

this is a good point as my design doesn't allow for folds at right angles to one another although I coould just cut some slots up the blade to give a basic form of this

in an ideal world workshops would be made on the same basis as Dr Who's tardis so we could have all the tools we wanted without space constraints

i have a 30 ton jack and still havent put it to any use as of yet

but i also bought the clarke hydraulic stand as well
