Metal bender on Ebay

After what some of you have said I have been thinking about making a hydraulic press. I've got most of the materials already all I would have to buy is a ram I was thinking like the one in the picture below. This would allow me to make a 20ton bench top one. I dont seem to be able to find anywhere that does a bench top ones that's more than 10 tones. I was just wondering peoples opinion of my design before I go making it and making a big mistake

Jack if its for bending metal you need to support the tooling or the ram will bend. Can be done a few ways, I supported the tool holder with rollers down each side so the ram only pushes straight down.

I’d set up a track cutter to bevel a point on a bit of 12-15mm Hardox or better Toolox (then harden) if making one of those presses.

I dont think I'd be able to do that with what I've got in my garage however it would be nice to have a perfect bevel rather than using an angle grinder

No, the ram is held in the U-channel using threaded plates, one above & one below - that way it breaks down for storage.

I was also been thinking. do you think the bit I've drawn around would withstand 20tons?

I was going to use 50mm x 12mm plate in a H pattern and it would obviously have the pins though it aswell. Would I be better off using a bit of 100x50 c channel, or would the plate be strong enough

How did you thread it ?

The ram came threaded, and I got @doubleboost on here to cut the internal threads in the plates for me, as I haven't acquired that skill......yet.

I don't really want a floor standing one and I did want one with a hydraulic ram rather than bottle jack

stick a grinder to it ackward so and so

dosnt mean you need it so high just whats around at moment

wrong time too buy as prices are a little higher than normal
