Rather than PFC I'd suggest that perhaps its Masterweld's translation of Paton stating that the machines can operate on a power supply voltage range of 160-260VAC..?

Could be. I saw the video below and even if it's not true PFC, the smaller non-pro versions seem happy to run a 5.0mm rods on 100 meters of extension cable so the pro versions must be capable.

I watched a video on calculating PFC and had to take an Anadin as my head started to hurt

Just to address @davidjohnperry and this post (that the Paton cannot run E6010)...

According to the manual you can run cellulose electrodes but need to change a few settings. I found a few rods of e6010 so I thought I'd "have a go"!



I tried 70 amps (no idea where to start - don't know the brand of rods nor have any packaging)...



Changed the threshold for the ArcForce to 18V (default is 12V)...



Changed the on-screen setting of "volt-amper. charact." ("Current-Voltage Curve" in the manual) to 0.2V/A (default is 1.4V/A)...



Result...



You can ignore the top bead as I forgot I had pulse on and, though it works, I don't think e6010 needs pulse at all...



Point me in the direction of the oil field lads - I'm a ready for tackling an open root!

Well, in any case, it just proves the Paton can do it - with tweaks to the settings.

FYI: I ran a little bit of e6011 with these settings afterwards and it did not run as well as using the default settings.

I've ran all sorts of rods the machine sadly wont run a 6010 7010 8010 I've got all types in all sizes from 2.5 to 6mm and the only machine I have that run them is my thermal arc 300 lm and my two Lincoln engine drives although your machine is newer then than mine so it may have been developed to run them mine wont though

I'll try playing with the settings on our early, Cyrillic, led display ones and see if I can get it going any better. I doubt we will get it going like a proper cellulose capable machine, I can't see there being enough headroom in the dc bus, or enough output inductance.

I'd imagine the 3 phase ones might keep one going I can run on on the thermal arc problem is once you go to whip and pause it it snuffs out
