Paint delivery with loose tins, all over the deck :(

I ordered some tins of white gloss from CrownDIY in Halifax, on their ebay shop.
Opening the package, at least two of the tins already had their lids loose/off, the package was full of wet Dulux, and it almost exploded all over the place covering my deck, hands and jeans in paint before I could jump clear.
I have asked them what they intend to do about it, no reply yet. Lazy thick bar stewards.

Never seen nothing like it and I'm ready to detonate. Got to go through the usual proceedure first.

First time I've been this angry for quite a while.

Smith and Allen send there paints taped up with the wire tape in a box full of shredded thick paper.

Spring retainers for the lids at the very least, then put inside thick plastic bags, tied off. That's outrageous.

Had that once with a loose leaking lid even though the tin had clips on it. The sending company were really good about things. and said if there wasn't enough left they would send another tin and if there was enough paint they would give me a discount on my next order. I think it was half them and half the courier company. Like you I wasn't ready for it.

You should have seen the mess in the back of the company mondeo, after the safety officer came in over the speed bumps at full belt with 4 tins of yellow barrier paint, not one lid survived !

not as bad as my mates tranny all his tools and paint in back of van . a full can of filler foam got punctured next morning he went to work and all his gear was stuck together on a big solid blob

We had some paint delivered from Wickes and they send it in preformed cardboard trays top and bottom a bit like egg boxes, then that's put into a box. Even Hermes would struggle to spill that!

Today I received a 5L tin of silver hammer finish from Bitec where the lid is so distorted that when I open it there is no way it will seal again. But it hadn't leaked. They are kindly sending me an empty tin - in fact two 2.5 litre tins as it's more convenient to me.

They would willingly have replaced it, but the paint is OK !

Last company I worked for, used to install Security pain/dye systems.

If you remove them you are meat too:
Install safety pin/plug.
Install them into the transport box.

One engineer, Steve R did not.

He drove a Astra van, with a wire mesh between the load bay and the driving area.

One went off.

They have a range of 10 meters.

Someone left a can of beer in my van and I threw something on the floor off the seat while driving and it put a nick in the can but it had a bloody widget in it. As you say, it goes everywhere. By the time I'd stopped and got it out the cab smelled like a brewery and lasted for days. I had to pray I didn't get stopped for any reason. I bet it happens a lot. They sent the young lad in our workshop out in the brand new Merc Sprinter to get 4 large tins of grey floor paint. He drove it like he stole it on the way back and wondered what the banking was in the back. He stopped and all four lids had come off and spilled everywhere, Her tried to clean it up and ended up using his coat. Got scared, drove home covered in paint and brought the van back the next day. Of course by then the paint had dried in the van. You can imagine what was said.

all this talk of stuff rattling about the back of vans. It must be clsoe to 20 years ago, but i was in my father-in laws garden and his neingbour pulls up next door, engine running, door open and runs in the house. Obviously forgotten somthing. Within seconds theres smoke billowing out of the open door. We ran across and pulled his 2 year old son out of the front seat while a can of WD40 that had rolled on top of a car battery had burst into flames and was flamethrowing in the back. Nobody injusred and the van survived also, albeit a little charred, but just goes to show how easy things can turn nasty.

I also was definitely wondering if the tins had been taken from a chilly warehouse, and somewhere in transit, blew their lids in the hot sun. But I don't * think* the contents could expand that much. I have never heard of it. And they should have put clips on anyway. Everone else does, I get paint and coatings couriered frequently.
CrownDIY of Halifax has said they will 'sort something out' anyway, so fair enough.. I will give them a chance.

We were in the Dulux centre a while back & there was a delivery being unloaded. The driver wheeled a full pallet onto the tail lift ..... but didn’t stop! The whole lot crashed down on the floor, all the lids off & tins split.you have never seen such a mess. Just glad I didn’t have to clear it up.

In fairness it was well packed. Sealed in a polythene bag, wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap, and set in a stout cardboard box with no external visible damage. It may well NOT have been the courier (Parcelforce) at fault.
