My Brother in Laws workshop in Punjab. He makes gates and security grills

He’s in the yellow turban giving a demo of how the cut bar stock. His workbench is the whole floor

Now one for the Sparks, this is his 3 phase distribution board

Needless to say, I kept my hands in my pockets and didn’t touch a thing. Was only there for about 20 mins. He really didn’t understand what I do for a living

Thier take out thier is based on karma. When your numbers up, your numbers up

Im not sure even the Victorians would have allowed that.

Reminds of getting a phone call from a friend who had been oiling his bike chain with the engine ticking over in gear on centre stand, his finger did a complete lap of the rear sprocket.

@mtt.tr Not quite as bad, But I remember I was adjusting some disc brakes on a push bike & this lad rotated the wheel jamming my finger nail in the rotor

I was not best happy to say the least!

Oxy Acetylene, apparently this is the best technique to get every last bit of gas out

The acetylene is generated in a little pot behind the cylinder

I was not best happy to say the least!

Similar to that i was holding a saw in college some prat grab it from me, made a bloody mess of one of my fingers. Only stopped hurting last year about 7 years on.

Haven't seen an Acetylene generator for about 40 years, at a place I worked we used to have a water to carbide one and a hydraulic back pressure valve to arrest flashbacks, then one day the factory inspector (as they were then called) came in took one look and got a little excited to say the least, the next day it was in the scrap bin and replaced with a DA cylinder.

Always understood da cylinders should be used vertically for a safety valve inside to operate if needed.

Yep for acetylene, most other gases when compressed are liquid. I don’t understand the physical chemistry but in liquid form these gases are more corrosive than the gaseous state and can damage the seals

Acetylene is extremely unstable. Above a pressure of 29 lbs/sq. in. it spontaneously decomposes. However, it can dissolve into acetone, and be stable. I forget the ratio of acetylene to acetone, but it's very high.

How can you say they are doing a good job when you just watched them run a 3.2 over a 5 or 6 mm plate closed butt joint on the main chassis by dabbing it at random and then grinding it off ?

How does being poor with minimum tools mean you can't prep and fit up a weld and do it properly ? They have all the tools to do it but let it go back on the road with a half baked repair.

I used to visit my mates dad and uncle who ran a small fabrication and repair shop in Wolverhampton, Both from the Punjab and lovely guys but had no concept of danger or safety, The compressor had 3 bare solid wires hanging out of the motor and the lighting was very dim but if we needed to spray something or use the workshop they always let us pretty much anytime.

Was it only me, but I would swear at one point the welding "rod" was a bit of wire coat hangar? Very suspect at 7.40 mins.
