I do think there is more chance of alternative diesel type fuel coming thru in the next twenty years.
no it’s not forcing anything other than after 2035 if you want to buy a new car, then it won’t be petrol or diesel, you can run your old car as long as you want, no one is saying that you can’t drive your petrol or diesel after 2035.
what have other polluters have to do with it, should we still pollute just because they do?

...however, way back when there were a lot fewer of us than 65 million, we gave the world the industrial revolution so however you look at it, it's mostly our fault the world is in the state it is, the least we can do is lead the tidy-up

Mass private car ownership took off post-WW2 when the government had its 'export or die' mantra, and then killed off the railways, while advocating the healthy outdoor life of Butlins and Pontins that were always located at the ends of the world. The infrastructure took a while to catch up (the M1 and Humber Bridge, for example).
That's £3500 miles per month.......so as I don't use that much it's far far less of a saving.
How much is an electric passatt.? Around 10 years old. Mine was 2 grand

Hmm. I suspect two things will happen: firstly the oil companies will see a diminishing market and prices will rise, secondly the government will come over all punitive and driving a petrol or diesel vehicle will be accompanied by taxes, fines, restrictions on where you can drive and measures to minimise consumption. Value of vehicles will plummet (which will upset a mate of mine with a barn full of 'classics' that he sees as his pension pot), thus feeding the mentality of 'get rid quick and buy an EV'... so nobody wants to be the last person with the keys to the world's fastest-depreciating assets.

Is the 2035 statement just Boris being Boris?
It's unlikely he's going to be in No. 10 in 15yrs time and I'm taking a guess that he's done it to look good knowing he's not the one who has to implement it
I did the maths a year ago on leasing a Leaf and buying something like a 6 year old Ford Focus diesel estate, not much in it cost wise if you include depreciation, maintenance and repair costs
Yes I know most of you do your own servicing and repairs but the reality is we are the exception. Straw poll of my 8 neighbours and none of them do their own servicing or repairs
Anyways, I'm electric from April, D3 is going and hello I-Pace. Done the maths, the lease and running costs for the I-Pace work out about the same as the running costs of my D3 i.e. fuel, tax and insurance but not including servicing, MOT, tyres and repairs so quids in
No I'm not going all eco, keeping my diesel Jeep XJ.
The Jag does 0 to 60 in 4.6 sec and is 4wd
If I don't like electric then 3 years time will get a D4

Since when do prices rise, when demand falls?

As EV usage increases (it will, it is now and will continue to), the tax take from Diesel, petrol and lpg will diminish. So the people acting on our behalf will tax EV charging, but at a rate lower than said dinojuice. This will keep the dinomotor in decline - no doubt helped allong by increased taxes to force people to buy more EVs. Social engineering they call it?
Anyway, the price of petrol and diesel will go up, undoubtedly.
When will we be forced to by hairdrier cars - the writing is on the wall, the technology, cost and infrastructure will all need to catch up first, but it will, to a point.
Will all this help the planet? No, of course not, not a bit, but it will make our cities nicer places to get run over by a Tesla you never heard coming (0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds - why?)

No one is forced to buy any vehicle, we choose to buy a vehicle because we want or need to get around, but no one makes you buy them, you can still choose not to, it’s your choice.
EV charging won’t be taxed, it’s likely to be more road tax or tax per mile, but never underestimate a governments ability to raise taxes,
0-60 in 3.5 seconds why not, it’s exactly why people buy Porsche or Ferrari
And if it makes towns and cities nicer places, are they not part of the planet, therefore helping the planet?
Though don’t they claim many deaths due to emissions in cities, so won’t that increase the population and be worse for climate change?

I will buy electric in 2025 when my current car is ten years old, I will keep all my classic motorcycles though.
