Comes under the flick knife group like you say but nothing stops them coming into the country as I know a few people with Microtech automatics. Spring Assisted are still legal in the UK but are supposed to be getting changed later this year. However you can still buy swords, huge machetes etc under the great UK knife laws.

at the moment they are trying to make everyone register their deac guns, and probably obsoletes, not checked that as I don't have any, next step will be to get all obsoletes deactivated, then at some point I recon call them all in, they cannot easily do that at the moment as you did not have to register deacs…….. I am not that involved in the reenactor scene so may have got a bit wrong, only have a Vickers and a couple of Webleys, a 38 and an airsoft.

I've always challenged anyone who thinks that they have been legal for X amount of years, to dare take such a knife into any Police station in the land and have a chat about it,....I'm pretty sure that you'll not leave that station with the knife, they would confiscate it at the very least. Ultimately it would come down to a court/judge to decide and get the wording in law to clearly include the spring assisted design.

Realistically in operation/practical terms there is no difference between a spring assisted knife and a 'flick knife',....I wouldn't be surprised if a number of assisted openers haven't already been involved/shown in court cases over the years and the jury/judge automatically thought that they were in fact a flick knife.

The blade on that knife springs out from the front of the handle doesn't it? If it is indeed an OTF knife then it's under the 'flick knife' law I gather so would be totally illegal to bring into the UK.

Unlike with say a folding spring assisted knife, where you have to move the thumb stud/blade a fraction to get it moving, those fall into that grey area. Even with them, customs have been confiscating that design of knife for a few years now.

Yes I know,....just making the point that some people have pretty much fooled themselves into thinking that such knives have been legal all the long.

My "Bowie" knife from the days when Boy Scouts were allowed to carry knifes.

My Great Grandfathers Pruning knife. Still sharp. But I can only recall my Grandfather using it, then telling me it was his fathers.

Bottom.
A blade I used for cable stripping, but H&S says I am not allowed.

Had these in the gun safe for a very long time, they don't go out.
AB Stilettos, nowt rare but nicely made. 20+ years ago 5 & 6" blade in the middle, wood & mechanisms are nice, not a bit of tarnish on blades.
Couple of CRK cash clips - really pretty
The bowies, well they are big things 13" & 15" overall but doubt any real bowie heritage although one has IXL on the blade with a bit of wostenholm

here is my EDC, it's a SOG Terminus XR, D2 blade with cryo treatment.
and by EDC i mean i use it for almost anything, has a few dent now, i sharpen it every weekend @ 25° angle, then strop it.

It uses almost the same locking system as the Axis lock from Benchmade.

Thought I'd ask here rather than start a new thread. The wetstone I use has a 400 and a 1000 grit side. I've often thought it should be possible to get it sharper and just put it down to poor technique, somehow never occurred to me I might just need a finer stone. What I'm wondering is, what's the difference (Quality-wise, obviously the particle size is different ) between a twenty quid dual grit stone from Amazon and a fifty quid single grit stone with a Japanese name on it?

Cant answer your question with any science but dad uses a very fine diamond grit stone for keeping knives sharp. It leaves a wicked edge

Work through the grits finishing up with a very fine grit. I use both diamond stones and oil stones, preferring oil stones. I can feel they are working. It’s better to keep a sharp knife sharp than to let a knife go blunt and resharpen.

i found the key to getting an edge properly sharp is consistency of the angle you are honing with the stone. a lot of people will struggle sharpening by hand because they will role the edge.

i will touch up a blade by hand but drop back to a guide when damaged or blunt. decent chisels always with a guide.

i bought a "lansky" sharpener - takes all the effort out of it - for knives at least
theyre not *that* expensive compared to a japanese waterstone.

alternatively: one could be made quite easily.
I was looking at poundshop "skewers" as the guide rods, and wet/dry paper as the abrasive.

I debated 3D printing one, might actually do it one day. I find smaller knives harder to get a decent edge on, chef's knife is easy to get a nice consistent bevel along it's length but my pairing knife might benefit from a Lansky type thing.

Lansky’s are good for sorting out a bad edge and giving you a quick sharpen. Can’t beat doing i5 9n a stone though

I can't remember the last time I used a wet stone since buying a jig. Came with 340-2000g stones. As Migmac says keep them sharp. Its a lot earsier to put an edge on a sharp knife than a blunt one.

My dad said keep a knife sharp and you will always respect it.
