Hi if you check in the discription it’s only got 100 bar fill pressure where a good bottle is filled to 230 bar. That’s as far as I know but I’m sure someone will be along soon to confirm this. Graham.
Thanks for your reply so I presume this would last half as long as a 230 bar one? And probably not answerable question but how many welding hours would you get from a 100bar as I would only be a light user.
Now you’re asking haha There is a way of working out how many hours welding a bottle of gas will last but I’m afraid it’s going to take someone who’s better at maths than me sorry that I can’t help. Graham.
I couldn't agree more. I'm pretty new to TIG welding (aluminium) and quickly found low pressure 9L pure Argon cylinders were used at an alarming rate whilst I practiced TIG welding. It cost over £200 for the three cylinders including paperwork when I returned the third cylinder against the deposit. I was advised by experienced forum members to buy a flow meter which I did. One thing I didn't do in my eagerness to start practicing was to check for gas leaks; I later found three leaks which were easily rectified. I close the cylinder valve after each session and a quick check for leaks is to look at the gauges before opening the cylinder valve; pressure should still be shown on the gauges if not there's a leak/s.

I too now have an account with BOC and purchase "Y" sized pure argon; the difference in use is astonishing the BOC working out so much cheaper. BOC require an annual non returnable payment whether gas is used or not; if my memory is correct this is around £112 plus gas etc and the £112 isn't returnable but is quickly offset by the cheaper BOC gas; I'm currently on my second BOC (20L) cylinder which is nearing replacing; at around £53 per full cylinder containing so much more gas I find it cheap and don't begrudge paying; I believe BOC are introducing a cost to customers who collect from one of their agents? Cost is from memory but reasonably accurate.
Having bought a welder and intending to use it in anger why not save money and open a BOC account saving lots of messing around and having to travel or get small low pressure cylinders which quickly empty?
Opening a BOC account is straightforward but I find their online bill rather strange to understand and to me could be more user friendly but I'm very happy with BOC and I'd like to plug The Wakefield Welding Centre my local supplier of all things welding; they are brilliant to deal with and usually hold a full cylinder in stock for immediate collection.

Sounds like we took pretty much exactly the same path, smaller cylinders first, shocked at watching the needle almost flick round to zero and then go BOC for larger options.
BOC weren't perfect for me either, the online payment thing is a pain, the last two years they have sent me chasing emails saying i'm in debt to them and that my account will be closed etc etc, until I remind them that I'm on direct debit so what the hell are they playing around at.
But I wouldn't go another route now as long as i'm doing enough welding to justify it which shows no sign of slowing down.
All SGS compressed gas cylinders are filled to 200 BAR. You may have confused us with other companies who fill to 137 BAR.
Any progress on your French connection?
All SGS Gases Pure Argon and CO2/Argon mix cylinders are filled to 200 BAR, you may be thinking about Hobyweld who fill their 10 litre cylinders to 134 BARHi,
