Last couple of weeks I've been sorting out a load of engines that haven't run for a while and could have been a load of work, but I just put fuel in them and they started. one of them had nipped up and was very hard to turn over. All of them have started so far and I can only put it down the the petrol tin being magic. (despite there being two petrol tins involved...)

55 yrs as an electromechanical engineer who worked in plant hire for a few years , my experiences in laid up two strokes made me start doing this as a matter of course :- Spring always saw me inundated with non starting two strokes .

If a two stroke has dust on it from being stored the likelihood is that the bore is dry and liable to pick up on a slightly worn cylinder .. Clean the machine , check the air filter , Take the plug out give it a spray in the plughole with WD 40 and pull the engine over a few times then reassemble putting in recently made fresh 2 stroke fuel or 2 stroke fuel that has " a fuel saver" in it in the tank .
I often used to put a piece of cut conveyor belt over the carb and pulled the engine over a couple of times to drag fuel through the carb too .

if you do go its only open on Saturdays, its by the Piece Hall, and parking is in nearby pay and display car parks or pay and display on street parking. its £4 or £5 entry fee and I spend far too much time there as a volunteer.
