Got to teach scouts tonght how to use a compass, problem is they are too small for them to gather round and view, so I made a few enlarged examples. 3mm acrylic, cut and engraved on my 50w laser then painted (engraved upside down) not the prettiest but it works View attachment 211659 View attachment 211660

Local expat likes old bikes. He bought a 1939 Peugeot 100cc jobby in bits. Prob was, no inlet manifold, so he asked me to run something up with a mild steel flange and a bit of tube. Original was ally, but after ages searching, he couldn't find one.
Having a few bits of ally lying around, I thought I would surprise him.. with this:

Screws are temporary. Allen screws will be used.
The exhaust port is divided as it has two pipes and silencers. Bit fancy for a 100cc, but probably helped sales.

Made this out of some offcuts of 20 × 20 × 2 mm box section and some 18 mm round bar (probably EN1A):

Spent a lot of time making sure the angle in the corner in the top right of the photo was exactly 45° (between the sides of the box section - the ends are slightly sub flush so they don't matter). The other two corner angles aren't as important.

The screw holds in the 18 mm block, which is reduced to 13 mm for about 19 mm length and has an M8 hole tapped in it. The washer is about 15 mm diameter.

Here's a view of the underside:

It goes in the vice of the bandsaw (the round bar holds it in the vice screw slot) and makes it super quick to switch from cutting at right-angles to cutting at 45°:

I've only used it once for a quick test and it was spot on (according to my protractor). Should save a lot of mucking about moving the fixed jaw.

The USA is a weird place for stuff like that, they certainly seem to pay crazy prices for carbide inserts compared to us or at least they did 8 or 10 years ago when I was told how much they were. Then the next thing you get stuff half the price of what we can get it for.

That will be down to trade tariffs

Not sure if that would have been the case on carbide Inserts as most were made in the USA or Israel although possibly it may have been on the raw carbide coming in from China or somewhere.

Eventually got around to making some extensions for some boring heads I have. All needed for a job I am currently doing. Silly size bores like 30,15mm , roughly 170mm down from the top of the part.
