I recently took delivery of these Swallow 15x80 porro binoculars that I bought via facebook!

The smaller set is my Nikon 8x42 roof prisms for comparison

I think the tripod will be needed for extended viewing!!

A 5,5hp vertical shaft Honda motor to power the hydraulic tirfor I acquired before Christmas. Makes me totally self reliant when I go up North to move the lathe. Just need to make an adaptor plate and it’s all systems go

Anything over the Thames is unchartered Northern territory’s. Need to go and get a 120” Colchester Mastiff out of a basement in Bradford. It was bought new, used for 18 months, covered in grease and mothballed ever since. Well worth the hassle to get it out,as you will never find another in this condition. Most of the ancillaries are still covered in the original storage wax. Comes with a never been used taper turning attachment too

Just a shame it is a Colchester

Be careful, Bradford is a wild place, not genteel like Hastings etc

I love Tirfors. I have several of the manual ones. Serious power but hard work.
My Colchester was moved out of a cellar with one as well.
I have seen one used to drag a fire engine out of a river. Great fun!

Treat them like nitro glycerine John the big 80 end is easily knocked and rips out the fine aluminium body screw threads , giving you a weird picture . No matter how I tried to get them seated & aligned correctly it was always there so I binned them in the end and cried myself to sleep over the £ 280 ( ish ) that they cost me .

Never seen an hydraulic tirfor in action - will have to convert mine!

I was only asking as used durite ones of a similar size but the customer supplied them as were nearly £50 each!! I liked them but wasnt going to be paying that much.

For the price you have just linked to it's worth a try. Cheers

Wow!!

I think i'd have sobbed me heart out for a week personally!

These had a new focussing shaft fitted in 1998, They were cleaned and re collimated, Have to say, Collimation is perfect even though they were sat in the case with no extra padding in there, Knowing how parcels are handled at the PO, I'm surprised there was no damage!!

I have noticed some Fungal bloom on the inside of one of the objective lenses so they won't last forever until viewing is imapaired but they will probably see me out!!

I've just tried them out - working fine. I'd think they'd be adequate aux lights but I'm only using them as DRLs.
They have a decent feel to them, much better than the price would suggest. Time will tell how good they turn out to be exposed to the weather and vibes.

Those would be great for star gazing if you build a parallel arm mount.
