led cures all the problems associated with heat and melting lamp holders no matter what the type

During my apprenticeship we were told The new bayonet is much safer than the ES as there is less chance of getting an electric shock if you touch the casing if the screw fitting is wired so the case contact is live which can happen if you forget to switch the light off or better still pull the fuse , just incase it is a two or three way switch arrangement .They were available many years ago, when old houses were screw in, when all you could get was the ‘new’ bayonet
Another case of regurgitating something old and labelling it as an advance
We used a weather proof 15 mtr rope light fitted with tiny bulbs ( 200 watt IIRC ) to heat the conservatory as well as light it , then before winter came along I put in a wired in thermostatically controlled ceramic wall heater on a time clock , Crimbo diner for nine in our sunny warm glass roofed conservatory was brilliant .What's the best bang for buck to light a 6 metres X 5 metre conservatory in terms of led lighting. It's got a polycarbonate roof so it's light during the day but horrible at night....it's also Cold but that's another thread. Lol
Even more important BC is undone with a 1/4 of a turn against numerous twists to unscrew the thread of an ES bulb
Yes, but those two spring-loaded pins in the BC base can often be fearsomely strong. Over the years, they can bore into the soft solder pads at the base of the bulb and lock it in, so that when you try to change the bulb the glass envelope loosens at the cement joint, or shatters in your hand.
That's the same with the Edison Screw bulbs , repairing all manner of electronic & vehicle stuff , 40yrs ago they were quite common in stuff from the early 1970's I had several SES bulbs break in my fingers cutting my finger tips quite badly , ended up using rubber tubes on sticks to unscrew them ( tube pushes on the ball of the glass ) . That trick also works for bayonet bulbs and LED GU lamps if you use a bit of ( medium radiator sized ) rubber hose . The most of our original smooth lens glass GU 10 lamps came with their own suction sticker on a 75 mm long handle . The latest surface bare mount 36 LED lamps are a doddle to change as you can use the raised LEDs for finger tip grip .....
