With screw fittings you also run the risk of removing the glass and leaving the cap behind, especially with outside fittings.
On screw fittings the bulbs never sit straight in the holder either, they're always cocked off to one side, annoying if it's a nice fitting with a bulb on show.
After some time the tab at the bottom bends down and looses contact with the bulb meaning it needs bending back up.
How long ago were screw fittings the standard in the UK? I was always of the understanding that bayonet was the british standard, I have some very very old B22 fittings in a box, from when you used to plug appliances into the light fitting. I though it was the EU that brought in all this screw fitting rubbish.
Worth noting that the US has always only been ES/SES.
Out of interest, does anyone know if it was only the UK that brought in Bayonet cap?
and just to add now its best to have led so change againits a right pita now the house used to be entirely BC fitting with the exception of the fridge that was SES
now at a time were everthing is soposed to be standardised we have some how managed to have SBC, BC, ES, SES that now means according to sods law we've got a full cubard full of lamps and you can garantee never got the right one
I found you one a bit closer. It's still a fairly common fitment in Commonwealth countries, as I found when I was looking for some old-style adapters (the ones my granny used to plug her iron in to).
Place to find them was Singapore, iirc.
What's the best bang for buck to light a 6 metres X 5 metre conservatory in terms of led lighting. It's got a polycarbonate roof so it's light during the day but horrible at night....it's also Cold but that's another thread. Lolyou will find pendants in houses are still bayonet and all bulbs available but pre wired fittings are mainly ses small Edison screw
Fluorescents no good then?pretty limited .if it has a beams across you could put track lighting in using gu10 led spot lamps on it
I found you one a bit closer.

In photo / TV and stage lighting it has always been a screw fitting. As the lamp doesn't move as it heats up.
Cheap gear will cause you problems like anything else in life.
Because they were in the same room the fire started.
