Both companies have dropped some clangers, but they've also produced some real gems.

The PSA Prince engine is a fantastic design - mechanically strong, simple, and the problems with it are all associated with the emissions gubbins. I've rebuilt 3 of them and each time admired some of their features - designed to be WORKED on, unlike most modern engines.

Fiat 1.9 JTD has been in production for 23 YEARS with only one major design change, it was one of the first common rail engines produced, and it's had remarkably few problems.

As for vehicle design/production... well Citroen and Peugeot have made some nice cars over the last couple of years, and Fiat made some great small cars around 20 years ago, but other than that, they've been pretty bland and uninspiring, and electronics... the less said about them, the better.

I can't see it as a bad move for either of them though. Their market segment is getting squeezed in Eurone because everyone can afford BMWs now.

Another schoolday. I hadn't realised PSA was trying to punt DS as a marque in its own right. I assumed they had resurrected a model name and the old play on words as in
idée and déesse.

But then I get puzzled by VAG using the old Auto-Union logo for only one of the marques.

Citroen/Peugeot engines are used in more makes of vehicle and even made engines for BMW bikes, nothing wrong with their tech it's usually the electrics that fails them when they get older.

JLR just bought Bowler, the guys that make fast off road vehicles. Evidently they were in financial difficulties. Had my Disco 3 for 13 years now, not too unreliable/expensive if you use the Disco 3 forum to help diagnose issues.

I would dread to think of a Land Rover with PSA or Fiat electrics.......

Got a Peugeot engine in my Ford Courier van and it's taken an enormous amount of abuse from me well if you shaft your employees what do you expect?
It's a rough old lump that resonates at idle and makes a lot of noise but it's been like that since new,
