I'm still mystified as to why CB fell out of fashion, I think it's one of the best forms of communication there is.

A combination of foul-mouthed tossers flooding the UK FM band and the rise of the mobile phone then smartphone.

Yesterday, this arrived from Lithuania, and very nice it is, too.
Unfortunately, if I gut the existing binnacle to fit it, I lose the fuel gauge, which is invaluable.

Mine came in very handy yesterday when I had a delivery to a sewage treatment works near Wisbech.

The access road was single track with no passing places that runs alongside the river Nene just north of Wisbech, and a load of Roger Warnes lads were near the works loading beet for Newark. All of them and the shovel driver were on channel 17, so I joined in and had some hilarious banter with them, but it made life a whole lot easier knowing the road was clear.

We used to use them if travelling in a convoy to a car rally, very useful in case somebody gets held up in traffic. Plus the banter can make a long journey less boring. They had nearly died out for car use though some of the diffing/boy racer crew are using them now to organise themselves & avoid the law.

The agri contractors around here still use them though some have switched to private network radios offering more privacy & longer distance coverage.

You getting your laughing tackle round our Monica is going to give you a fat lip eventually .

Most of my generation in our family had gob irons . It all started due to one of our uncles having terrible Parkinson's disease , the tremble gave him an advantage , he could hear a tune once then play it .

His biggest mouth organ was nearly a foot long and had ( IIRC ) four organ faces on it . ( orchestral grade ) like this one

These are the dog's danglies, cuts ,doesn't saw and make a mess , no effort required it just glides through 40 mm Celotex and keeps a dead straight cut, you can shave off a 4 /5 mm slices no problem. Worth every penny in my opinion.

I used my tracksaw and extractor last week for slicing celotex.

Will grab one of those. Your not the first to mention then to me

described as "90000LM 5X T6 LED Headlamp" on the bay.

10.72, including batteries (18650s). + a battery charger and uk adaptor.

the separate charger and adaptor added 2 quid to the price.
waste of money: they went straight in the bin.
will charge with a usb b cable direct to battery box.

the headlamp itself feels very solid and wellmade, with a good light spread, and plenty of options for which lamps are illuminated.

Got myself a cheap little welding table today , all stainless steel with 2 drawers and on wheels ,I'm happy

It's not big , Size is 1200 x 595 x 790 but it'll do for me and like I said it was cheap

Nice, and far from cheap when new. Bare in mind using the table as a ground will arc pit the top. Better off grounding to the material. This is especially true when welding stainless

Look closely at the batteries. Quite often marked at 4000mah or similar but when stuck on a digital charger they are tiny capacity. Charge quick and die in 15 minuites.

Worth buying a nitecore charger

Went to the tip, and came back with a rebadged Ebac Dehumidifier. proper old school no brains/pcb keeps going jobby
Obviously not shiny enough for someone

You obviously live in a more civilised/sensible part of the UK than I do - at our local tip there are signs everywhere saying it is an offence under regulation blah blah blah to take anything away from the tip. Some codswallop about stopping the spread of diseases; probably trying to make sure they can sell on the scrap metal for profit.

Is that Horsley tip, Dr Al? They caught me taking something from there, there was a bucket with some tools in beside the skip. I saw a drill vice in there, picked it up & chucked it in the car, the guy rushes out of the portacabin starts to say something, looks in the bucket & sees a load of screwdrivers. He then looks around, grabs the screwdrivers & hides them in his overalls, then says you’ve got to take care, it’s all on camera you know. Had a few run ins with them over the years with what they will take, generally with the young blond kid, not seen him for a while.

Yeap Horsley tip indeed. Really can't get my head round why re-use of stuff is discouraged. Surely it's better than recycling in terms of energy use etc. Whatever happened to "reduce, reuse, recycle, in that order"?
