how to mark a horizontal line with no fancy tools

feel a bit of a fool asking this , im sure theres a smart way to get around it

i need to mark a line thats dead horizontal about 6 mtrs long , nothing around it is level to measure from

all i can come up with a nail each end with string and keep offering up a spirit level , obviously haven't got a decent straight edge that long , and offering up to the string seems to be a bit slap dash

ideas please

you don't pull it strait you fill it with water and the water finds the exact level at both ends

Set two pins with the water level and snap a chalk line between points.

Personally I'd pull the laser level out

I use my laser level indoors up to about 20 meters and have a decent set of water levels that stretch 20 meters outdoor

Water levels are 100% reliable and cheap. Saw one in our local B&Q, Quite a lot cheaper than a lazer and works better in bright sun. No batteries either. It had two calibrated tubes connected by a LOT of poly tube, just add the water.

Decent laser levels are not cheap. Certainly not cheaper than a bit of tube.

Wouldn't be without one now. Not used that often but when it is it saves a lot of time.

Great for tiling and kitchen fitting.

Just to clarify. B&Q is known as Brico Depot here, same Kingfisher parent co. So I imagine the kit is the same as UK?
With the water guage, the only proviso is to make sure there are no bubbles in the tube, they tend to screw the levels.

Dont you have a hose pipe, if so just put some clear pipe on each end and job done
